I think I am experiencing a problematic Bottleneck..?

Go to solution Solved by saltandpeppin,

As I mentioned before, the reason that your CPU is throttling is because of the mosfets on your motherboard forcing your CPU to throttle to avoid damage by heat.

What kind of cooling to you have in your case? what revision of the GA-78LMT-USB3 do you have? Up to revision 5.0, the chips used were of such low quality that the RMA frequency of the board was over 50%.

Putting a 125W CPU in a weak cheap motherboard is a bad idea.

Probably an old version of the Mobo (the PC ain't new), yeah, what mobo/CPU combo would you recommend for my rig?  I have a CoolerMaster 750w PSU

Hi I think my system is being held back a lot but I am unsure (help/advice greatly appreciated).

Basically in games such as:-

-Battlefield 3

-Far Cry 3

(seems to be any graphically intensive games)

I am experiencing major frame dips, in BF3 my FPS will go from 60 right down to 35 and bounce around like crazy whilst playing. I thought this is probably because my system is 'Mid-Range' and not powerful enough to maintain 60fps 1080p, so I bump the resolution to the lowest it'll go (like 600p) and still my FPS has huge dips).

In games like Dota 2, CS:GO, Bioshock Infinite my FPS is almost always 60 at 1080p everything maxed out.

I have the feeling my CPU is dragging my PC down.

(Specs are as follows)

CPU:- AMD FX6300 (Stock Speed/Stock Fan Cooler).

GPU:-AMD R9 280X MSI Twin Frozr (Stock Speed/3GB)

MoBo:- GA-78LMT-USB3

HDD:- 2TB Seagate drive

Ram:-16GB (Stock Ram/No Name/Came with PC).

Windows 8.1 64Bit

What do you think the issue is here? really struggling to pin it down to one component.

Any advice would be great thanks!

Something coould be thermal throttling.

Temps while in game?

Hangs around 40/45 is that normal or?

Those are great temps whether its your CPU or GPU.

Do you have V-Sync on in games? Any background programs? Things using up bandwidth?

I would say the motherboard... The VRMs are causing the CPU to throttle.

Thats my CPU temps, possible bottleneck then?

eehhhh. It's definitely bottlenecking, but not too the degree explained in your OP. Has to be something else.

Wondering if I should try OC'ing my CPU or just waiting and getting an Itel CPU with a new Mobo?

FX-8350 in a 60 dollar 4 phase POS motherboard... Not a disaster waiting to happen at all.

Many people use an Antec spot fan or a setup of their own doing in order to cool the mosfets beside the CPU.

Putting a 125W CPU in a weak cheap motherboard is a bad idea.

Well it all depends on how much you want to spend, and what you want to do with your PC? Do you have any brand preference? Is it easier to get certain parts in the area you live in?

The PSU seems to be fine for what you have right now.

The 980 is a very capable GPU and probably only needs to work 40% in light games. If you want more utilisation then turn the graphics settings up as high as they go.

Go to Nvidia control panel and take power savings from adaptive to max performance.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz
