Samsung S34E790C vs LG 34UC97-S

andy0842

so I'm planning to buy an extremely high end monitor pretty soon.

right now, I'm looking at Samsung's S34E790C and LG's 34UC97-S.

Both are beautiful looking and beloved by many folks who have already purchased them, including Linus (although it was just given to him).

But I'm not completely sure which one to buy. They have the same size display.

Although Samsung uses this "VA" display, it's still 99% on sRGB out of the box.

So I don't think non-IPS panel would be any problem. (yes, i need the color accuracy)

Most of the specs of each monitor are about the same.

I think I'm leaning toward Samsung's monitor since it has a better stand, tilt and height adjustable.

What do you guys think?

Go for the Sammy, i've just had mine sent back to repair as there was a noise coming from it but apart from that it was excellent! I bought the Dell U3415W although better out of the box (I prefer the stand) it does suffer from light bleed which is annoying as hell after the Samsung, cant wait to get it back!

I owned the LG 34um95 and it had really bad backlight bleeding. I ended up sending it back. I bought the Dell U3415W. It has a little bit of bleeding but nothing like the LG. I am happy with it I really like the build quality of the stand, the bezels and Dell has a very good warranty. I looked at the Samsung but decided against it because the panel does not have quite as good of colors or viewing angles compared to the IPS Dell.

I heard samsungs is pretty much the only one without bleeding because of the VA panel. I'd say go samsung and get a proper stand later on :)

I will say this out of experience after owning both, if you feel you can handle bleed in all 4 corners and think you wont notice it, which you will and it will always be in the back of your head making you notice it then go with the lg, the distraction in dark games was too noticeable for me and for the price it was not worth the hassle and value so i returned it.

After owning the samsung for a week now i am certain its a keeper and even with freesync monitors coming out i will be owning this samsung for a long time before something decent firstly gets announced and then released a year later, after a little calibrating with an x-rite a1 display pro and tweaking the response setting to standard this monitor is above and beyond the lg and any other 21:9 3440 x 1440 on the market at the moment for that matter. This is one monitor i will not regret purchasing or having to deal with returning for the 5th time hoping to get a good one by playing the lottery.

Dont get me wrong you might have to return the samsung if there is an external issue like a hair behind the display, several dead pixels or a display is leaning too much too one side, but mine is immaculate and the deep blacks and colours once calibrated are on par with ips displays and have better blacks, there is no ghosting, no tearing, no bleed, the speakers are decent if you choose to you em, the stand is great and moves like a charm and plus its basically a plug n play monitor with it already attached, you will be using it within 20 minutes of having the box in you home.  :)

If your looking for a 34" curved display then this is your best choice at the moment and by the time a 34" ips curved freesync/gsync 144hz without an fps cap window comes out you would have used this for a long time and been happy you spent your money on the correct monitor.
