Yeah, that's a great deal.

My old lightnings crushed every other 290X with the exception of the Vapor-X.

I remember getting them for $750.

It goes for 440 euros where I live (min) and about 400 in the US.

Seems like a good deal since the Lighting is a good 290X variant. A 290X is almost as good (and sometimes better than) a GTX 970 and it has 4GB VRAM.

A guy is selling his 4 month old Lightning for that amount.

I think the lightning should crush the 970 any time of the day :P  at least at 1440p.

That's why I said sometimes, most of the gamers are still at 1080p.

For 1440p which is what this discussion is about the R9 290X is faster than the GTX 970 ( tested with latest drivers ). They're tied at 1080p. I would consider the 290X to be the faster and higher end card overall.

He edited his post to say "(1440p gaming)", so I assumed it was for 1080p, which is more common.

I know the R9 290X is better at 1440p.
