Do I need G-Sync?

Go to solution Solved by Opcode,

I'm planning on getting a single MSI GTX 970, with an resolution of 1080p @ 24". And will of course be using Displayport.

If you feel that G-Sync is worth the added price premium then you'd be fine with that configuration. Only concern I had was to not to bank on G-Sync double buffering at low frame rate to justify buying a QHD display to pair with a GTX 960 or something along them lines. Although a GTX 970 paired with an 24" FHD Acer XB240H for example would be a decent setup.

Hello, and thanks for reading this already!

I'm looking for monitors, and I've heard lots of stuff about G-Sync.

From what I heard, it combines the non-screen tearing part of V-Sync but without the bad parts.

But what causes screen tearing, is too much FPS, right?

Can't I just lock my FPS at the max Refresh Rate of my monitor?

Thanks in advance!

If you can afford a decent monitor with it go for it.

Yes you can, that gets rid of screen tearing but it may cause input lag which in most cases isn't noticeable but in some cases it can be. Honestly, the price tag doesn't justify G-sync for me, but that's me, if you have cash to spare, maybe go for it. :)

Yes, you can simply lock your FPS to 60 or whatever, but then you won't be getting anything higher than that!

The first thing I would ask is what is your current GPU configuration? What resolution display are you targeting? etc.
