Mic Volume

xCaptKirk

I spent all night playing with settings to get my microphone levels in windows to pick up well.  Using front or rear audio ports made no difference I have to max mic volume and +30db boost just to get the mic levels moving in windows. The problem with that of course is the static white noise that is picked up.  I know in another thread someone mentioned buying a cheap usb soundcard to use for the mic. Just for testing I unplugged my astro mixamp from my ps4 and the levels were fine.  Headset in quesiton is Sennheiser G4me Zero but I also tested with Astro A40 and got same results.  (The ps4 and mixamp is typically hooked up to tv so I don't want to have to go from pc to tv all of the time)  Just curious if there is just something I'm overlooking or if the Hero VII onboard just isn't up to the task.  I don't mind buying a usb adapter or an decent soundcard.  Please all suggestions welcomed.

Is their some other device I can use similar to an Astro Mixamp made for the pc that will handle an analog mic input or if there is some sore of inexpensive analog mic preamp?

The mixamp is a usb device. Use a usb soundcard for mic input. http://www.amazon.com/Syba-SD-CM-UAUD-Adapter-C-Media-Chipset/dp/B001MSS6CSor if you dont like amazon http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812186035 . I have both the mixamp and the syba, both mic inputs are good

PC Audio Setup = Beyerdynamic DT 770 pro 80 ohm and Sennheiser pc37x (also for xbox) hooked up to Schiit Fulla 3

This would probably work I would just get another mixamp but the headphone amp isn't enough I mean its loud but not enough.

I'll take a look thanks.  I would really like to reduce clutter from my desk which is why I was considering a soundcard but there is a handful to choose from not sure what to get.
