My temps seem a bit high

My specs are in my account.

Im running a i7-4790k + stock intel cooler(and thermal paste) and an asus z97 pro mobo

I tried folding, but my temps go from idle(40ish  C) to load(90C+). Is this normal for the stock cooler, first pc builder. Maybe should I replace the stock thermal paste with Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste(I have some already)

i saw the word stock in your post and am goign to immediatly give some reccomendations. x'D

just a few me and some friends have had really good luck with. (tired to include as many price brackets as i could, alsot the zalman one looks BA AF)

ye those temps are a tad high.

basically dont do any folding or CPU intensive tasks while you're using a stock cooler of any sort. while it might be just fine the enthusiast in all of us will constantly worry and die a little inside.

step one, ake sure the thermal paste on your cooler isnt just fkn concrete. dry TP is useless TP.

step two, make sure you have good case-air flow. thats pretty simple.

step three if 1 and two dont work, replace cooler and improve on airflow. (replace cooler with something better is assumed, one time a ''client'' of sorts replaced thier hyper 212 with stock because they thaught their 212 evo was broken when it was just bad case airflow)

step four.

pray.

pray to gaben and linus that your pc cools down.

haha lol ^_^

90 on stock seems about normal TBH however that CPU has a tcase of 74c so you really need to do something to cool it down.

i personally see 60 and start grabbing house fans and pointing them at the PC. x'D

anything above 40 is gonna melt my house down. i fkn KNOW IT. *paranoid old lady with her tea on the front porch, family thinsk she's cray cray*

I have a 8350 currently mining ziftr coins. it sits at a nice 30 c above max (amd software counts delt rather that actual temps).

the tcase would mean op could run the CPU at 74.04c 24/7 for the whole warranty (3 years?), you don;t really want to go above that temp to make the chip last longer.

I think that airflow is fine because i have the 750d in the stock config 3x140mm fans 2 front intake and one in the back exasust

Paste really isn't your issue.  The stock cooler is one part, the limited number of case fans is another.  No cooler works well sitting in a mass of already heated air.

That 750 case is plenty big and can move a lot of air, but you need more fans - I'd go the full load - 2 x 140 mm in the front, 2 x 140 mm on the top, 2 x 120 mm on the bottom and 1 x 140 mm in the back.  Front and bottom intake, top and rear exhaust.

If budget is an issue start with the intake fans and add as funds allow.

After that look into a decent aftermarket CPU cooler, with the high airflow from the fans a Cooler Master 212 Evo should be plenty good.

And then if you don't like all the noise, then add a fan controller to dial them down when you are not folding.

What price fame and glory.

The stock intel heatskink provided with the 4790K is far from adequate, you should look into replacing this AS SOON AS POSSIBLE...rememebr this is a 4ghz CPU with a 4.4ghz boost...it's a factory overclocked part to be honest...you want and NEED good CPU cooling for that chip son.
