Mic Issues

xCaptKirk

I just got a new headset Sennheiser G4ME Zero got a great deal on it.  My motherboard is an Asus Hero VII.  Front or rear audio I have to turn the mic boost all the way up just to have decent playback.  I'm using Audacity to listen to myself to see how it sounds.  I'm debating on buying a soundcard as I was told that the onboard audio is fine which it is I suppose but the microphone input just isn't working right.  I've tried other mic's as well and the only ones that work ok are of USB variant.  Any suggestions or ideas on what all I can try?

Seems like there are a lot of people having issues based upon reviews.

Where are you reading these reviews? I've only seen good reviews in response to using it as a mic input - the headphone output might indeed be sucky, but that's not the problem you're trying to fix. I mean, what's the worst that could happen - you waste a few bucks on a tiny device that could prove useful in the future?
