290X 8GB for 1440p?

Howdy folks, I know 4GB is enough for most games at 1440p but with texture giants like Shadow of Mordor and modded Skyrim poking about I've started wondering if more VRAM might make some limited sense. Currently the 8GB 290X's are much more expensive than their 4GB counterparts, but they occasionally come close enough to make me wonder.

So with 1440p Freesync and games with crazy textures in mind does 8GB make sense if only just a bit? (5% performance even?)

1. Overclock until the magic smoke comes out. 2. Modify until broken. 3. Fix and repeat.

Nothing will make the price jump from the 4GB to the 8GB 290x worth it unless your doing multi monitor gaming.

4 GB is enough for 1440p even if you push it really hard.

4 k a different story.

I've seen the price delta hit ~$50-$60 and I'd be willing to pay that if it improved minimum frame rates and/or frame time consistency, but those are elusive numbers to get data on!

I've had my doubts about 8GB making sense at 1440p, but with everyone laser focused on 2160p I feel as though I've slipped into a crack.

1440p is barely enough to come close to 4gb. and I do not think that the memory is the problem before the gpu is on a 290x.
