why isn't my hdmi working?

so i got given this pc with a intel i3 4330 and a gtx 750. i tried connecting it to my monitor whats a benQ GL2460 using hdmi and nothing comes up ive tried dvi and even d-sub and they work but not hdmi? also it has windows 8.1 as well. do i need to update some drivers or is it something else?
