Does it perform better/equal to the 212 Evo?

R4vel

So I was looking at buying the Hyper 212 Evo but one little gripe with it was that the heatsink weren't coated black, that's how I stumbled upon the Xigmatek Dark Knight Night Edition. Anybody know if it dissipates heat better than the Hyper 212 Evo?

It should, yeah. The 212 isn't a very good cooler anyway.

I had the Dark Knight a while back cooling a 4770k that was sitting at 4.7Ghz with a NB ELoop as a replacement fan (It was a stellar overclocking chip though) It's quite abit larger than the 212 and it did it's job much much better than the 212 could ever dream of.

Also in Aus they were pretty similarly priced too.

Yes, it cools better while being louder.

The 212 EVO is not the holy grail, but saying it's not very good isn't really right either.

Only 3.8c warmer than a Corsair H100 at 150w load. The Noctua NH-D15 bests it by only 2.6c at that same load.

Back to the real point though: Yes, the Xigmatek cools slightly better than the 212 EVO. It does appear to be louder though.

1. Overclock until the magic smoke comes out. 2. Modify until broken. 3. Fix and repeat.

I wonder what the load was to lose to the D-15 by 2.6C.

Where are you located? What is your budget for the cooler?

But seriously, it's not a very good cooler.

"Not very good" and "Not the best" are two totally different animals. To say "it's not a very good cooler" is to say that it has a defective design, doesn't fit well at its pricepoint, or just flat doesn't work as advertised.  None of this is true.  It has a very solid design, is arguably the best cooler at its pricepoint, and works exactly as advertised.

If you wanted to say "it's a good cooler for the money, but there are many options that offer overall better cooling/reliability/price-to-perfomance/etc.", then one would have to take more credence to what you're saying.

You're right. That's not what I meant, and I've just realized that many things I have said recently haven't represented the way I feel.

Canada, unfortunately though I can only shop locally. They're priced the same at $40 anyways and I'm replacing the fan.

Yes, it cools better while being louder.

Was gonna replace it with a Silent Wings 2 fan anyways. I know that by doing that I'm spending more than the Pure Rock which has the Silent Wings 2 fan, but the Pure Rock is bulky and I fear that I might block off the other dimm slot.

Thank you for your feedback guys.
