Suggestions to Repurpose for Old Computer

I have two older computers

What are some suggestions i can do for them, either use for something else or just take parts and make a new build.

I have thought of maybe an Office computer, but that's pretty slow...and maybe a plex server (not sure how that works thought) what are some good options?

 

 

 

Athlon 64 3200+ Single Core 2.0Ghz (Socket 939)

Corsair Value Select 2GB

Sapphire x800

Antec TruePower 2.0 380 Watt

 

Pentium 4 2.0 (dont even know socket)

1GB Ram

some crap gpu

Antec earthwatts 500 watt

 

 

 

 

My current Rig is

i5-4690k

16GB ram

r9 280

xfx 550 watt

To be honest those builds are quite garbage and I don't see any real purpose in them. Maybe salvaging a few parts off it?

NAS for storing stuff. 

Small Minecraft/Game server

Small webserver

 

Plex really needs more like a dual or quad core CPU. It will be transcoding most stuff, and these older single cores will just cry and complain about that. 

 

But, they could be good to teach yourself how to set up a webserver or some gameserver for smaller applications.

I was thinking to just part it out.  What parts are even worth keeping? and what do I do with the parts not worth keeping?

I agree but I am a packrat so I'm looking to get rid of them or do something and clean up!

I can stream movies at 1080p from an ATOM based notebook with 2gb ram so... yea i would say yes

If you dont need it to transcode at all, it will work. If you need to transcode, then it will possibly be problematic
