What is a good electric razor/shaver to buy?

Ryou-kun

I am trying to find a good electric razor/shaver for myself, and there a lot so I don't know much about it.

I don't know my budget, but I can say it should be great for shaving your beard and mustache at an "affordable pricing" and possibly get a smooth skin if possible. Well, basically, if it is possible to remove the left over beard and mustache that is already skin level surface and visible thing if you guys know what I mean.

Electric doesn't get down to the skin the way that a manual blade does.

As for manual blades, I will never use anyone other than dollar shave club again, blades are ridiculously sharp, I was able to shave my entire beard with a fresh one, no trimming required.

I use the Philips PT735/17. Works pretty well.

If you wan't it really smooth you're gonna need a normal razor though.

Interesting. I never use manual razor/shaver because I am afraid of cutting myself up.

Not only that, it looks like it take longer to do, but I don't know.

It does take a good 7-8 minutes... but if you have a good cream, and don't run the blade side to side, you'll be fine.

Since my beard grows ridiculously fast and i don't shave everyday i use hair clippers without an attachment then regular razor to get rid of the rest those electric razer's are beyond shit.

@Ryou-kun I've been shaving since i was 12 and cut myself so many times honestly it's nothing to be afraid of, u barely feel it and it's going to happen at least once (most likely more).

Edit: To put in perspective those rotary electric shavers hurt way more than cutting yourself. Pimples are fine sometimes u cut them off but you don't feel it, you will only notice after your done shaving and look at your face.

What if you somehow have a one pimple under the mustache or beard for some reason?

Won't it hurt if you cut it?

I mean I also get this random pimple out of nowhere on my face. Luckily, an electric shaver/razor doesn't cut it.

It takes a little longer, and you do cut yourself occasionally, but that's more about too much pressure, moving the blade sideways, or having a dull blade.

Still, nothing beats a good razor, electric has never done well for me. even those rotary kind.

It can, but it's all about pressure with stuff like that, I have a giant mole that grows under my mustache, and when I shave it, I have to be careful not to cut it. Not too difficult though, and even if you cut it, just put a small piece of TP on it till the bleeding stops, problem solved.

Also, over the years, as you shave, the skin you shave develops a callous and you cut yourself less and less often.

If you're pushing hard enough to pop a pimple, you're not shaving right. Smooth, light, but deliberate strokes is how it should be done.

I don't grow facial hair all that fast so a cheap electric one from philips has served me well for a few years now.

Plus my student budget has appreciated it.

I don't cut myself since I was 17 or something and it has been quite a long while.

Anyway, the best option seems to be a good safety razor.

I haven't in awhile either i was just telling op it happens. I rush my shave because i hate doing it, Im a very sloppy shaver and don't mind cutting myself since it doesn't hurt lol. (not that i do often anymore i actually can't remember the last time i cut myself)

Never rush your shaving man. It's not the cuts you should worry about though, if you have sensitive skin (like I do) you'll get razor bumps and they suck.

I shower for half an hour to open the pores and soften the hair and then I shave really carefully not exerting too much pressure. Having a nice shave gel is essential too.

Oh, and don't forget to sterilize your razor with alcohol after shaving.

edit: almost forgot, NEVER shave against the grain.

No Dollar shave club plug yet?

I have been using them for 6 months now and like it a lot. Honestly I dont know if the blades are really as good as some other options but you get so many that you can change them more often so it kind of comes out in the wash.

Dollar Shave Club Razers / Braun Series 5; my daily drivers.
The Braun Series 5 razer is very nice. Come's with a carrying case, cleaning brushes, and an electric cleaning station with solution. Really awesome for when I have to run out of the house real quick, and don't have time for the elaborate process.

Phillips norelco razors have pretty much anything you can think off (they even clean themselves), but they are pricey, like you can buy yourself a new laptop with that money pricey. Other brands are not better than a regular razer blade. Also, don't buy the cheap norelco razors, the most expensive ones are the only ones that give you  a clean look.

Still won't be as good as a manual razor. :)

Razors aren't that expensive, especially at DSC

Actually, you are right. But I cant carry manual razors on an airplane, and I don't have the time to buy razors when I am traveling.

Interesting how most of you guys favor manual razor. I was expecting mostly electric razor/shaver response, heh.

Hmm, how do you guys shave your beard or mustache with manual razor? Like do you guys have styles, a way, route or whatever?

I was thinking to try out Dollar Shave Time because it is cheaper but I don't like monthly subscription only yearly subscription.

How often do you replace the razors?

Do you splash some warm water to loosen up the skin or wet the skin with water then apply the shaving cream OR no water just apply shaving cream and start shaving?

Electric razer don't give you that smooth fell or infact atleast in one go,i would always recommend manual blades unless you are using them down there then, get a electric one .
