R9 295X2 vs GTX 980 SLI

So I have been wanting to do 5760x1080 gaming but I do not know what GPU to get.

So I was wondering...

Should I go GTX 980 SLI, or get an r9 295x2 and add a second one later?

What do you guys think?

Gtx 980 SLI will beat the 295x2 any day all day. Except in price... The gtx 980 SLI will cost a bit more

A single R9 295x2 is WAY more than enough for 5760x1080. You don't need two. Two 980s are not worth the price difference, especially since you really don't need that 10% extra performance.

GTX 980, 295X2 is just dual R9 290s

No, they are two R9 290Xs. In fact they are faster than two 290Xs in crossfire due to higher clock speeds, thanks to the superior cooling system.

A 500$ "bit" more ;)

False. They are actually full fledged Hawaii cores. AKA R9 290X. Actually even faster since it has a higher factory clock due to headroom given by the Asetek cooling unit.

980 SLI is a bit faster but a 295x2 is much much cheaper.

I am always about getting the fastest single gpu you can afford despite my 980 SLI setup.  If you want to spend over a grand on SLI 980's, I would seriously look at the Titan X.  Yes, the 980 SLI and 295x2 will be faster but sometimes dealing with games with shitty or no SLI profiles can be a pain in the ass.

I have a potato!

980s will perform better, but cost more. Remember, its just 2 290xs

Across a range of games, 980 SLI is 9% better.

Where I live at least, it costs about 70% more, and moreover, Nvidia surround is not as good as AMD Eyefinity.

I'd get 295x2.

R9 295X2 is like £500 and is good enough to tackle 4K so if you game 1440p > then 295X2 is the one you want.

No competition, 980SLI all the way. Even 970 SLI competes and beats the 295x2

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_970_SLI/20.html

970's are better at low resolutions, but OP says he wants it for 5760x1080 which the 295X2 beats them at.

I'm too poor to afford good things :( I am trying to save for a 4K monitor for my wee 6970 xD

I've already got two monitors for uni reasons, so a third one isn't too big a blow. I also got my GPUs second-hand, so saved a couple hundred quid there.
