MYSQL Server across two VM's

Hikaru12

I'm not a MYSQL expert so I figured I'd ask here first before attempting to do some further research.

My company has two VM's both of which run Windows Server 2008 R2. One is referred to as the "data server" and the other as the "terminal server" where all common applications are installed. Due to our small IT staff (one guy and myself) we have users directly remote into the terminal server to access applications and data. My question is this: if I install a mysql server on the "data" server will the terminal server see it and be able to connect to it? Will I have to change any settings? Currently in MYSQL Administrator GUI it indicates that the MYSQL Server and Client are both installed on the data server. I set the connection type to TCP/IP. Let me know if you need further information. Thanks for all the help!

If you configure the firewall correctly and install the Mysql server on the data server, the terminal server should be able to acces it via the ip of the data server and the correct port.

what is the application of this setup and what do you use to virtualize the servers?

It was a document management system. I pointed the OBDC drivers at the same IP as the data server and it seems to be working. We'll see how it goes. Thanks for the help.

If the applications on the terminal server can see the data server, you shouldn't have any trouble getting the MySQL visible on the data server.
