Wife needs a new GPU

stealth80

Hey, my wife has just told me she needs a new GPU for World of Warcraft (the only game she plays). Shes currently using my old MSI 670GTX OC in the following rig:

i5 4670k

MSI G45 Gaming Z97

8 GB GSkill ram

Samsung EVO 850 256gb

MSI 670GTX OC

It has to be Nvidia as she uses shadowplay, which obviously rules out AMD. I thought I would get her a 960, but seems it would be little improvement over the 670 after reading some reviews. I dont wanna go for a 970gtx cause quite frankly i feel it would be overkill for her.

Any suggestions?

Is her 670 really not enough for WoW?

Seriously I am with Fate here.  I find it hard to believe that the GTX 670 is not enough for WOW.  I played it for years and many more intensive games with online play and it was never an issue.

Too many ****ing games!  Back log 4 life! :S

Are you overclocking the cpu?  The game is more cpu intensive.  Overclock that sucker to get some more frames per second for WOW.

Seriously wtf! how does a 670 not wipe the floor with WoW? Are you doing something wrong?

Quickly looked at a benchmark at tomshardware since ive never played the game and it says @1080p she should be getting 100+fps with a 670 lol

-snip-

Something like a R9 280X is inbetween the 960 and 970 (more towards the 960)

Nvm

But a GTX 670 is still good for WoW right??

Otherwise look towards a 770 or 970. 960 is not a very good value I think..

And its not really an improvement

All these guys are correct.  When I quit playing wow in MoP (and don't give me that bull shit about "Blizzard really is updating it this time") I was using a 6770 which MOPED the floor on wow, which is a significant downgrade from the 670.

Either your drivers aren't installed right, or you're running into another issue.

Regardless, adding more graphics horsepower IS NOT going to solve whatever kind of issue you're having.

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

You know thats slower than her current one right`

Not sure why she'd need anything better than a 670 for wow even after the graphics update... An R9 280X would be but no shadowplay obvi. Try to find a 770 for cheap somwhere.

My suggestion is keeping the 670. Unless its broken or something. In that case go find a 670 again. It's good and you can get it really cheap these days.

960 GTX - bang for your buck for sure, if i was only playing wow on my rig now days that would be plenty of horses

And to be frank, i cant see why your 670 is having issues, i used to play wow on a 550 Ti at 60+ fps on high settings

My consideration is not to match the power of the existing 670, but a newer Nvidia card that can play WoW.

As everyone sugested, I would also recommend o used gtx  770 or a new gtx 960. I have to respond to your statement: "It has to be Nvidia as she uses shadowplay, which obviously rules out AMD." I used both shadowplay and raptr, and I have to say, there is allmost no difference. The video-files from raptr tend to be a little bit smaller, both are viable options.

Used 770 was what I did. So glad. You'll get more Vram in it than the 970. 3.5 vs 4 running at full speed. It's better than the 960. Same Price. Mine was $237. It also OCs and caps awesome video using shadowplay.

Use Good Asus Stix gtx 960.. is best good performance and slient cooling fan.

I also choose msi gaming 2g but they good only overclocking, asus strix gtx 960 is good for give +15% gaming performance.

see need informations - http://www.hardocp.com/article/2015/03/23/asus_strix_gtx_960_directcu_ii_oc_video_card_review

Why sidegrade? The 670 will perform better when overclock.

Never use those sites. They don't offer any benchmarks in real world scenarios. The 960 is as fast as a 670. Hell even a 770 wouldn't be worth it over a 670 since its a rebranded 680 (which is only 20-15% faster than a 670). Honestly though how can a 670 not be enough for wow?
