can I use my pc without case?

so the only thing I don't have is my case and aftermarket cooler so can I just hook it up and put the stock cooler on and start installing windows and maybe take it for a test drive? right now I have the mobo sitting on its case with the ram and cpu in it

Put your system for the time being in a cardboard box  :P. Without joking around: You can build your system outside a case without problems but keep the things said above by Earthboundhero in mind. Happy surviving fellow survivor (with your dayz picture and frankieonpc imitation name ;) )

Some like it others don't. I play it a lot and I like it, I want to see the game change and follow it's development. Some people only want to play it when it is finished and I can understand that. You should give it a try but when you get frustrated with DayZ you have an enormous catalog of games on steam so don't worry about that I will be a great experience no matter what!

By the way, if you don't have a way to start your computer when you build it on your motherboard case, use this trick linus shows here. https://youtu.be/vbDiSMQ_L_k?t=1m37s. Just check the manual that comes with your motherboard, find the two pins for the power button and connect those two, and only those two pins, with something metal (like a screwdriver).

Since this questions will be asked later on, you can start the PC by shorting the power and ground pins for the power switch with a metal object like a screw driver.

edit: Yusasis beat me to it lol.

hey when I was cleaning off the cpu and I put too much alcohol on the coffee filter and some of it dripped onto the green part of the cpu but not into the socket will the cpu still be okay?

Yeah, alcohol evaporates fast, you're fine.

If:

  • you don't have pets, kids, or drunks to worry about
  • you plan to have your caseless PC in a fairly dust-free zone or don't mind frequent cleaning
  • you don't mind "hotwiring" your PC each time you need to turn it on

Go for it. Hang your PC parts on a wall, have a tray, etc. It'll be an interesting sight.

"or drunks" best quote ever + it's so true drunk are really the worst threat to your computer
