First let me start of by saying this will be my very first "From the ground up" computer build.
I have always loved gaming and PC gaming has aways had a special place in my heath.
I own an XBOX One for the exclusive games like Forza. I also own several Nintendo handhelds (including the new 3DS XL) and have always been a Pokemon fan.
But I LOVE sim (-ish) games such as Forza, Flight Gear, Assetto Corsa (and yes even Minecraft!)
I'm Dutch but prefer English speaking Media (For example all my devices have been set to English language because most Dutch descriptions ether make something difficult to understand or just make it sound plain stupid).

I have basically always used a mac with a bootcamp thing to play games. (with a Mac Blackwidow 2013 and razer ouroborus)
About a half a year ago I decided that: "it had been a good run with my Mac" and that is was time for a more gaming orientated system.
Especially with DirectX 12 coming.

I have Modded, upgraded and taken apart several computers in the past.
I also have quite some experience in the software department.

Lets get on to the computer build:

I am open for suggestions.
I like the more simplistic and toned down look Apple computers have so this is why I decided to go with a Black - Gray/Silver color combination instead of the more common "gammerly" looks with lots of colors and edgy looking design. Hell, this thing has the sit next to me for like the next 2 years so it better look sleek and have some decent quality.
I plan to upgrade my pc down the line probably the first upgrade will be adding some Noctua fans and a Noctua CPU cooler as I (and some of my friends) have had Great experiences with these coolers. The next thing I am planning to upgrade down the line is the Ram bumping it up to 16 GB than maybe adding another SSD and later a better CPU or GPU. This is one of the reasons I chose the Corsair case over a case like the Cooler Master 690 III (Windowed) Because the case has clamps rather than thumb screws this just seems more elegant to me.

I'm Still in the financing and planning phase but I think I'll start building in about 2 months.
(I find feel and quality of products very important, this is also one of the reasons I love mechanical keyboards)

I chose the Intel i5 4690K but I am still doubting if I should upgrade to an i7 or not.

I chose the Asus motherboard because I can upgrade my ram later on and i think it looks nice. I have also heard great things in terms of reliability about Asus

I'm a bit confused as what motherboard to chose.

Should I go with the cheaper: MSI Z97S SLI Krait

or the Asus I currently have in the build?

 

I chose the ram because I like the way the heat sinks make the ram look so sleek and it's not that expensive. (and lets be honest I could go with faster ram but as Linus has proven it doesn't affect games that much)

I chose the SSD and HDD combo because I want quick startup and have some games on the SSD whilst still having some storage and not costing a fortune. I chose the Sandisk because in my understanding its the best price to performance you can get.
and the WD Caviar Blue because I find this drive to be the most reliable.

I chose the Asus Strix 970 because I want to game on it and I do not plan on running in SLI and I like the look of it.

I chose the NZXT s340 because I hate plastic and love the minimalistic look of the case and I do not really need drive bays

I chose the Corsair power supply because I heard great things about Corsair supplies and like their simple black design. (I MIGHT SWITCH TO AN EVGA ONE I'M NOT SURE YET!)

I chose the Asus monitor Because it has low response time whilst looking quite good and at a reasonable price. I originally wanted a Ultra-widescreen Monitor but backed off after seeing response times, refresh rates and prices.(a am currently using a 27 inch monitor and its great for emersion and productivity. but they are pretty expensive and to avoid spending even more I went with an 1080p monitor and I may upgrade down the line to something like a ASUS Rog 1440p 27 -inch thing.)

I chose a Corsair K65 keyboard because I want a mechanical cherry keyboard with cherry switches and RGB lighting. The LUA coding thing is going to be pretty awesome as well. (I can overcome the current horrible software)

I chose a Logitech mouse because I like the look, ergonomics, performance, button layout, price and quality of Logitech.
I also decided to get me a bungee and a mouse mat

I decided to nam the computer Axon because I jugged it to be a fitting name.

I am very open to suggestions and debate and will update this post once I have made progress

 

Currently I'm planning to do the build in 4 parts

 

Part 1:

Buying the monitor and getting my space ready

 

Part 2:

Getting PC components (Except for HDD and the CPU Cooler)

 

Part 3:

Buy Peripherals and Headset

 

Part 4:

Buy Extra's like the Cooler, A few Noctua Fans and A HDD.

(Maybe the Thrustamster TM 28, Thrustmaster T3PH Pro Pedals and the Thrustmaster TH8A Shifter.)

The only thing I'd change about your build is that I'd grab a better power supply. The CX line are not the greatest. I'd suggest a decent EVGA, Seasonic, or Higher end Corsair Unit.

I'd try and get a 2TB HDD, WD are like the Apple of HDD's. 7200 is standard, I have a £50 seagate drive and it's the same as my friends WD black in terms of loading times. 

 

Also like what DarrenP said, i'd get a better PSU, the CX line is fine, it's a power supply at the end of the day, you don't want to cheap out in the first place, a CX 750 or M series would be fine.

It does seem like a better idea now that I think about it.

I am planning to add fans and other components.

so a better PSU would be a good idea.

 

an other thing:

 

I am affraid I posted my topic under the wrong map thing.

because 2 bellow build logs is new builds or is this just me seeing double?

I cannot be held responsible for any bad advice given.

I've no idea why the world is afraid of 3D-printed guns when clearly 3D-printed crossbows would be more practical for now.

My rig: The StealthRay. Plans for a newer, better version of its mufflers are already being made.

Can you give me an example please? . I considered the Fractal Define R5 and the cooler master 690 III but what ultimately won me over are the carrying handles and the aluminum (and that Corsair cases (usually) are nice to work in)

You could try a corsair 450D or 750D. 450D being smaller and the 750D being bigger. And as for the GPU the strix might not work that well so i'd rather get a Windforce from Gigabyte instead. For the power supply i'd go with the Corsair AX 760 since it's platinum rated and that's better then gold (just for future reassurance) For SSD i'd go for something reliable like Samsung 840 or Intel 530 or 730 series. I know they're more expensive but might as well. and for gaming the i5 is plenty and for light editing too. i7 is just a little too much for JUST gaming.

OK a few more things, i took a look at your build.

I've read your post about the Obsidian series cases. It does seem like their build quality has gone down a significant amount lately. The H440 is a nice case, not one i would get but still nice none the less.

 

And yes the EVGA super novas are better for the pocketbook

I looked at the recommendations but also decided to switch some thing around on my own.

I agree with the EVGA PSU I believe they are superflower OEM and superflower is up there with seasonic in terms of quality. XFX is a good choice too as they are seasonic OEM. If you like minimalist looks the Fractal Design Define series have very good build quality for the price and are easy to work in. If your going to get one I would suggest the R4 or R5.

I agree with the EVGA PSU I believe they are superflower OEM and superflower is up there with seasonic in terms of quality. XFX is a good choice too as they are seasonic OEM. I like your choices from a pure performance standpoint but I would also like it t match colors as I am putting RGB lighting in it ect. (and yes I'm probably modding the mouse to match as well.)

Ah right I see then stick with the Asus mobo the kraken has RGB lighting and you should look into getting an RGB mouse too like the Roccat Kone XTD or Corsair M65. I own the Roccat Kone XTD myself and can say it's very comfortable and goes nicely with my K70 RGB.

Ah right I see then stick with the Asus mobo the kraken has RGB lighting and you should look into getting an RGB mouse too like the Roccat Kone XTD or Corsair M65. I own the Roccat Kone XTD myself and can say it's very comfortable and goes nicely with my K70 RGB.

I have tryed the logitech mouse and I dislike it. I'll probbebly get the m65 because I like metal constructions especialy with things like mouses
