GV-N970IXOC-4GD (Gigabyte GTX 970 mini) heat problem

Ok, here's my problem. I have this graphics card. I have it for a month or so and I've noticed this (sort of) problem. When gaming it gets hot. Really hot. It stabilizes around 80 C after 15 minutes or so. It doesn't go above that. Now, that by itself shouldn't be a big problem. GPUs can get very hot, especially this one since it has only one fan. But, I think it destroyed the PSI express slot I have it on. Yesterday it crashed the PC and the screen didn't get a signal. I tried a different GPU, and it didn't work, I tried this GPU on another PC and it worked so I tried the 970 gpu on the other slot and it worked. So I left it on the other slot of this motherboard (or the rev. 1.0 I'm not sure about that).

Can I do something about the temperatures of the gpu? Like a fan blowing air directly on it? Or pulling air off the case underneath the gpu? This is the case. I know right? Where the hell did I get this case?

Last but not least. Is it a problem if I install the GPU on the PSIE x4 instead of the x16?

so it works in 1 slot ..but not the other?..yea sounds like a bad slot...might just be dusty tho..try blowing it out

better airflow with some new fans might help with the temp...if its just a minor heat prob

room temperature?

does your case have enough airflow?

do not use stock fans

if it runs below 65 to 70C it ok not above that (life of the gpu will be reduced)

Room temp is 25-26 Celsius. It can go as high as almost 30 C. Now, the case. It almost certainly doesn't have enough airflow. It has psu on top with the fan exhausting air. There is a fan in the back for intake and a fan ghetto installed in the bottom front of the case blowing air towards the cpu. There are some holes in the bottom front of the case hopefully for air intake. I was aiming to push the air out from the side of the panel. Should I just upload a picture?

Also, GPU isn't overclocked. 33 - 37 C idle temp for the gpu. 40 - 47 C for the cpu.

Could the MSI afterburner have something to do with this? I've reduced the temp limit to 70 C and made it a priority so now at least it won't go to 80 C. It's steady at 70 that I set it to.
