[Retro Build Log] ~ "NES, The Little Beast" ~

Noxz

Heyy, welcome to my build log!

This is my second buildlog, feel free to check out my first one (work in process) : "The Future is Back" I've had two Nintendo's that have collected dust for some years, and becoming more interested in casemodding and "ghetto" made me want to create something fantastic. After seeing the best Build Log ever, I just had to do this myself. Thanks to all the people and companies supporting me! This wouldn't been possible without you guys!

I will try my best in giving you guys updates, but it might take some time  :D

My list so far :

Intel Pentium G3258

Intel i5-6600k

Nvidia Low Profile 750ti

HD Plex 250w Power Supply

HyperX Fury 2*4Gb Ram

My goal is to create a unique and different computer that will get alot of attention at lan events and such.

This is what I'm starting with;

Update #1:

Spoiler

KZzvpDQ.jpgCutting away all of the things taking up place for the mITX motherboard ~

2viOOzC.jpg?1

Sorry for blurry photos, won't happen again ^-^

NgyJeWe.jpg

After cutting of the unecessary plastic inside the nes, then lets move over to make a new plate to fasten the mITX motherboard on. I ordered 2 pcs 3mm thick sheets of PlexiGlass from ebay and I was really impressed with what I had made :3

After cutting out and making the edges smooth, I sticked on some black carbon fibre to make it look abit better, what do you think?

That's all for this update - I will make some progress this or next weekend. Stay tuned.

How do I make a "Spoiler" BB-code to place text incide? I appreciate all feedback  :)

What a great idea!  this is going to be very cool!  But how the heck are you going to fit all that hardware in that tiny NES case?

It will fit perfectly, I've got a small and awesome HD Plex PSU that doesent take much place at all, and still can power 250watts to the computer!  And with a mITX motherboard I still got place for some fans in there! The graphic card are just 70-80mm tall, so it fits perfect inside the NES. Stay tuned for the next updates!  :D

@ungreedy You have competition.

no competition  :) NES PC's shall stick together!

It was one of my goals to make my log as detailed as possible so others could get inspired and try it them selves. kinda like a NES pc instruction manual

also subbed

edit- also very curious on how this will compare to mine like hardware lay out and such. I personally can't wait to watch the progress on this!

What power brick are you going to use? Specifically for the 160W.

I haven't tought so far really. It says "Input Voltage: 16V-24V DC" so I'll find a ac to dc converter with a output on 16-24V ^-^ I will have to do some more research :3

what kind of fans are those?

I think I got one 80 or 70mm fan and a small 40mm fan. Both 4-pin and go up to 6000 RPM, to get some airflow when needed. Might make some sound, but I can manage ^-^

Edit: Got them from Ebay, no special manufactors. :3

  • 2 weeks later...
  • 3 weeks later...

So I tried to Epoxy the Plexiglass to the NES case and at the same time cover up all of the holes. There might be a easier way, but it worked ^-^ My new phone died so the photos are taken with a old brick. I will buy myself a new camera untill next update :3

Update 2 :

NyTZeYY.jpg

I used 4 small RC tires to dont ruin the Carbon Fiber :3

Pwho6sw.jpg

I'm going to sand this down and then re-paint the thing with more or less the original color.

Feel free to give me advice and suggentions.

pretty cool!  are you planning to make the inside look pretty (add more carbon fiber, nice cable management etc) or just try to squeeze it all in any way it will fit?
