Asus' ROG G501 all-aluminum ultra-slim notebook with 960m

ahhming

Uhhh... You do realise this has the Republic of Gamers brand on it right? lol

Yes but are you really going to spend $2000 on a laptop with a freaking 960M in it for gaming at 4k?

Nvidia markets the titan's as gaming cards but we all know that they're not a very good value to most people gamers.

I would love to get this one for work. I just wish I can get 32GB version.
That way I can run as many Virtual machines as I can and simulate an environment before implementing it live. and the best part... I can take it home :)

Oh people will, believe me..... I personally won't because I already have a capable desktop and I don't need portability.

its ALMOST perfect, if it was 13" with 960m and 15" with 970m and a 1080p/1440p display It would be a 100% buy from me even at £1900 (it costs $2800 here in the UK)

The stool I let loose this morning came with a ROG badge on it, does that mean I can run Crysis on it?

*sigh* bro......

At $2000?

yeah but only if it had a 970m (its actually £1900 in the uk OCUK are only getting 168 units which is $2800)

There are other 13-15" laptops that are just as thin, with better hardware for less money - I just like the design and all aluminium

Shame :(

Well yea some people will, but with a pixel density of nearly twice a 28" 4k display, I don't see a viable reason to buy it for anything other than serious content creation. If you're gaming and want a high res 15.6" laptop, get a 1440p or even 1080p display so you can actually play demanding games.

But hey maybe I'm wrong ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I wouldn't spend that much money on a laptop D:

My max would be at around $1600.

But we live in different countries so...you guys don't have 500 EUR a month as your average income.

Umm...

Intel Iris graphics are powerful enough to drive 4K displays. A 960M will be just fine.

is $400 really that step too far? as I say, there are more powerful and thinner laptops for $1600 compared to $2000

I dont mind paying a $400 premium for build quality, but paying $400 for less GPU is not a trade off I am willing to make

That has the Intel Core M.

It has thermal throttling. It's fanless.

960 alone struggles alone to 4k are you saying the cut down version will do a better job?

half the number pixels/shaders/texture/render units

For content consumption, the GTX 960M is far more than enough. Gaming? Hell no, but who expects to game at 4K on this thing?

The MBP Retina is still more expensive...or just as expensive (15" one)

It also has a body that won't stain so bad from fingerprints, undoubtedly better battery life, slightly thinner body and it doesn't have the gamer aesthetic. In the US, a 16GB/256GB/i7 3.4GHz boost 15" MacBook Pro Retina costs $2000, so you're getting a little bit less performance for the money. I'd still rather put my money on a current-gen gaming laptop though, not something that's trying to be what it's not (like the G501.)

Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Why? You don't need dual 970M's to just run 4k. I doubt the people buying these laptops are gaming anyways.

Yeah why would gamers buy a Republic of GAMERS ROG model right?

Because it has a 4k display and a 960M maybe? They can market it however they want, but it's still not a gaming product.
