Corsair SP or AF fans?

Trail Mixorz

Okay I have a corsair 350D and I know that the af fans are more for air flow without a rad, but in linus' video of these fans, he says that the sp fans can be better for a front panel without mesh. The front of the 350d is kinda restricted so should i get the af or the sp for the front?

I think AF. Sp is for is you are trying to push air through a rad, fins, harddrive cage etc... The front of the case is pretty open, although there isn't much airflow from directly in front of the fans, I don't think AF's will have an issue...

AFs have issues even moving air through fan filters..So if you have fan filters you will be pushing or pulling air through then you want the SPs..

Either will be pretty good, I'd choose SP's because of their greater compatibility (with radiators, etc).

Yea, actually get SP's. From most of the research I have done, they move almost as much air as AF's anyways. And they might be useful down the road for radiator or heatsink applications.

+1 on the SP's I had AF's with a dust filter attached and they would move no air but once I took off the air filter the temps dropped 7-8 degrees in a matter of seconds. Thats not to say the AF's are weak they just don't have enough static pressure to move air while being blocked by filters, wish I had known this before I bought 4 of them.

in linus' video of these fans, he says that the sp fans can be better for a front panel without mesh

Linus says,or he should have said, that the SP fans are better for front intake WITH a mesh.

the mesh makes it more difficult to pull air into the case,so higher static pressure fans work better.

for exhaust or non-meshed/non-filtered intakes AF series are slightly better .

though all intakes should be filtered as otherwise you'll have a city of dust in your case.

NO, I actually meant WITHOUT mesh, but instead like a more solid front, should've clarified, sorry guys

For open air flow nothing blocking the fan airflow, with the exception of honeycomb mesh, fan grills, etc. AF fans

Anything else, like fan filters, heatsinks, rads, SP fans all the way

SP's for place where air moment is restricted and AF's for place of no restriction.

for the front fans you may go with the SP's and Linus suggest this too !

It'd go with SP fans, but if you need to push air past your HDD cages then get AF fans for that.

so far the only reason to consider the AF-series is for an exhaust fan and that's almost

a stretch.

most late-model cases have an air filter, restrictive HDD cages, some type of

restrictive grille or mesh, or obstacle destroying the air-flow.

the AF-series would almost never be recommended for use in a case with those terms..

maybe like the internal fans of the NZXT Switch810 or Corsair H70 with internal fans?

the only dog on the SP is loud air-noise at 12volts.. use 7volts or the voltage adapters.
