How good is this PSU?

Hello

a year ago I wanted to upgrade my old psu with a new one... the only problem was that at that time I knew nearly nothing about psu and counted on somone that put a Cooler Master B700 in. Now my question is:

How good on a scale from 0 to 10 is this psu and with wich one would you substitute it.

If it is bad, how urgent is it to exchange it?

I'm really curious what your answers will be :D

That'll be a fine PSU for a long time, why are you swapping it out? New graphics card? 700watts should cover most single card rigs

I would recommend any power supply from Corsair (I have the AX650  :P ) Or from xfx, but any from a reputable brand should get the job done

I'll agree with the Corsair recommendation. My machine is powered by an AX860i (only that much because I experiment heavily with video cards that my buddy has stockpiled, and needed something to support a GTX 480 along with the rest of my system), and my favorite part about it is that the fan won't even spin up until it needs to, meaning less noise.

nearly... I'm currently waiting for the next nvidia graphicscard generation xD

Since the psu was under those for normal use and had several molex connectors and wasn't modular I thought that it could be not the best quality :) ...

I read and heard several times that a good psu was fundamental (...for the "health" and lifetime of a pc).

Uhm that is still an excellent psu, from a reputable brand.

As long as your system won't draw more than 680ish watts I wouldn't worry about upgrading at all, as that one has decent power delivery

Check that here: http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculatorlite.jsp

If your adding a second card and it will pull more than 680watts then I would recommend a big boy ax860, but I would be rather surprised if your cards would be pulling more than that power supply could handle

479 Watts in the not-best-case-scenario; nearly worst-case-scenario :D

Just cause it's Corsair doesn't mean it's good. Yes the AX and AXi are good but they are pretty much always overpriced compared to other offerings.

You have the name to back it up, oh of course its overpriced.

Not a bad choice though...He shouldn't need to upgrade anyways though

The name is definitely there to back it up. I'm willing to pay a bit more for good customer support and a solid product. I know they have made some products that absolutely blow, but every company does. You win some, you lose some.

I stand by my statement regardless.

EDIT: I should also point out that I was backing up his statement saiying that Corsair is fairly good. I personally love their products, thus I will recommend them. Again, I stand by my statement, and with all things, my opinion should always be taken with a grain of salt and some research to better your decision.

The name doesn't have anything to do with it. The manufacturer is more important when buying a power supply.

Corsair have good and bad, as do EVGA and others.
