Two networks from one isp? Horrible network performance from netflix

VenomGaming

I recently introduced my mom to netflix, and now cannot play any games or watch any media period. I use Telus for an isp, and have the Actiontec v1000h modem for ethernet and wifi. I honestly need a fix. I also know almost nothing about networking, so I am unsure of anything to do about this. To get an idea of my internet speed without her watching netflix, here is my Speedtest.net result:

What I hope to do is be able to buy a separate router and modem so I don't have to deal with that. Hope someone has a fix for my problem...

EDIT: I think I need to restate. I need a way to have two separate networks without a loss of speed on both. I have no idea if this is possible, but I need two networks rather than one faster one.

Netflix should be robbing much of upload speed

You really want a router with QoS (quality of service). I've had similar issues.

Yeah, this is pretty much the 'quick-solution' that you're looking for. Almost all newer routers (within the last few years) come with QOS built-in. You might want to check with your current router if you have one.

Type your default gateway into an internet browser on any computer connected to the network. (usually 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.0)

Login using your username and password. if you didn't set one it's probably the default one which you can look for online.

Make sure QOS is enabled and detects all connected devices.

I tried this and it is enabled, and detecting all devices. Also, I was exaggerating a little with a quick solution. I managed to convince everyone in my house to lay off on the netflix, so I don't need a simple or quick solution. This router that Telus supplies is already pretty bad, considering they started giving them out in about 2011 or 2012, so I might as well get a new router I guess. So if I can get a new router and modem for my own separate network, That would be the best fix that I can think of...

Well, in that case:

Check to make sure that the modem is Docsis 3.0 compliant for the best speed capability and connection stability.

If the modem has a reset button, when a temporary internet outage is fine with your family, hold the reset button for 30-60 seconds and let the unit restart. If there is no button, just un-plug. Do this with your router too.

If there are still issues, contact Telus.

He said he's on Telus. DOCSIS 3.0 is Coaxial Cable internet. Telus uses DSL to provide internet connections.

Also, at that speed, he's likely on an ADSL2+ connection.

Wish I had 3 up!! Just called my ISP and asked what my cap is for upload. It's capped at around 1. Great download. From 15-19, paying for 25 mbs but crappy up. Guess I'll have to bite the bullet and deal with it. Not paying any more money for something like business class for better up.

It's always a good day if you woke up breathing.

I just tested netflix. My network usage shows upload at around 300Kbps, but downloads is at 15-25 Mbps during the first half minute, then it went down to 0-5 Mbps for the rest of a video, so maybe it's your modem/router that's the issue?

Netflix likes to buffer 3 minutes in like 30 seconds, wait 2 min 30 seconds, then buffer another 3 minutes in 30 seconds. It's rather annoying for other people on the network because of the intermittent nature.
