"safely ejecting" usb and hard drives?

Is it better to do this? What does it do exactly? I always just did it because I was told too. Curious why this is. :)

Essentially it just ensures that there is no active data transfer going between the computer and the USB device so that you don't potentially remove the device while it's being read/written to, therefor avoiding data corruption/incomplete transfers. It's not required, but it is a good idea.

Yep. I always safely remove. I've done unsafe removal a couple times and each time my data was corrupted next time I needed it.

I always do it, it takes, what, 5 extra seconds? Better to be 100% sure than 99% sure.

After you;ve transferred your file you can just pull it out without the safe stuff.

Never had problems, never will have problems as long as i dont pull it out when its still copying.
