ping, jitter and other broadband question

Griffscavern
Go to solution Solved by JefferyD90,

From USA to Germany, I'd say that's kinda outstanding.

It also depends on what you're paying to get from your ISP.

OK here goes. I tested my connection speeds just now, over my android phone mind you, this is my result.

Ping: 197 ms

Packet loss: 0%

Jitter: 1.48 ms

Download: 552 KBps (yes Bytes not bits)

Upload: 112 KBps

This is from Oregon, USA to Germany.

Is this a decent reading?

Why test from Germany? That's not really a accurate representation of what you're gunna get all over the internet, unless you use all German websites.

Ipay 79 bucks a month for ADSL and phone.

I tested from Germany to show my boy that it isn't our internet causing his friends lag in game.

Seems like a reasonable connection even for ADSL. What app did you use? I'm guessing you are paying 75$ for 5/1?

Once again, this doesn't tell us what you pay for.

I am paying for 25 Mbs ADSL. The average I get is around 17 Mbps down and 1 Mbs up. Measured with ookla. The upload sucks, IMO, but so far no issues.

I used voiptester app. Yes you are correct on price and not sure on 5/1. Are you referring to 5 down to 1 up?

Yea, paying for 25/?x? and only getting about 4/1 isn't good. Even if its in Germany. I'd suggest trying again and also contacting your isp.

I have tested it a few times and while it fluctuates a little, my upload is about the same. I am getting static noise through the phone line that it is all plugged into, but changing filters hasn't helped. I would move it to a different jack, but at the moment its not feasible where my entertainment center is. I will be moving things around soon and hope a different jack helps, but can't just yet. I was thinking that the jack I am plugged into is faulty, but changed out the jack and no help. I think the wiring is not great where I have it plugged into.

Plus I am running this test wirelessly through my phone. No computer yet. That will be changing soon. Do you think it might be better if I am connected by Ethernet?

I have contacted Frontier and they sent me a different modem, but can't set it up yet. Needs to be hooked into router/modem by Ethernet. No option for that until I get my comp.

Just called and I am capped at around 1 up. That part sucks, but not giving any problems that I see.

The static could be due to the type of wire used from your phone line. The only real way to solve this is to call you're telcom and tell them you want new wire in your home.
