Ideas for a Game?

chargerjake

Hello people of LTT forums!

So I've been bored out of my mind and wanted to put my programming knowlegde(Java, JavaScript, UnityScript) to a good use for a prolonged period of time. I want to craft a good game. However I have no ideas for good games, and the ones I do, I don't even follow through with because I eventually rule them out as crappy. I want to create a game like:

1) A "Five Nights at Freddy's"-esque game, which I call a "GUI-based" game.

2) A "The Escapists"-esque game, more like a 2D-top down survival game.

I want to create something simple, not like a hardcore multiplayer FPS game, more like a singleplayer game. Again, like a GUI based one, or some kind of simple survival one. I don't want it to be extremely research intensive, or take extremely long, like over 6 months to create. After all, I do have to make my own audio and video, so I'm basically a one-man-developer.

Anyway, thank's for your input.

P.S. I was debating about whether to post this in Programming and Software design but I realized it might be better to post in PC gaming because it was more directed towards PC gamers.

top down, hardcore multiplayer zombie survival. A game where you WILL die, just a matter of how long.

Teamwork is vital, building/scavenging is necessary. bigger focus on building/looking/teamwork then just the straight up fighting.

Would love a game where we baricade a top down house or structure, have to scavenge around, and fortify, and hope a horde doesn't pass by. I dunno. just spitballin

Theres a lot of zombie games, but they are all stupid and I don't enjoy. Either way, wish you the best of luck!

and id help with play testing!

A few games tried to do the hyper real zombie survival (day z) and such, but they all dont do it for me. A top down might be simple enough you can go more indepth in other ways, I want to die because Im dumb and havent drank water all day, But I want to be able to stock up with all the bottles of water I can fit, because its stupid If I cant fill my house with bottles of water.

so basically, start of the game, its a struggle to get all the resouces before you starve/freeze/dehydrate. but once you stock pile guns, ammo, food, water, then you worry about the zombies that get more and more powerful, and grow in the numbers. New players will struggle with just getting food, going from house to house and still making it.

Experienced players will struggle with zombie hordes late game, Because by then they should of stock piled a building. I dunno, A legitimately difficult survival game thats more then just "turn up zombie health/damage" would be rewarding

edit: hey if this takes off and you make hundreds of thousands or anything, send me a pizza or something please

This. Is actually a really good idea. I'll keep this on the list. If any of you have a different idea, don't be afraid to post it!

Also, maybe a game that I can make a sequel to, not like a game that I release updates on.

I recommend checking out Extra Credits on Youtube, it's a great channels that talks about various subjects on video game development and design.

They use a very "light and edible" presentation, you'll get a good idea of what they're talking about without having to read walls of text on the subject.

They mention a mantra in one of their videos that is very useful, it's "Fail faster". It means you should just start to work on something as quick as possible and see how bad it goes, then learn from it. Don't spend hours on trying to work out theoretical designs and concepts, there's a good chance they'll crumble in practice because you haven't gotten any real information about it.

Also, stay the fuck away from survival zombie games. Unless you're very experienced or have a team with you, it's most likely going to suck, that's pretty much proven by recent games on Steam.

I'm telling the truth! I AM a 12 year old girl!

Ok, while I'm waiting, do you have any ideas for non-zombie games that are simple to make?
