Strange Network Speed Issue

Canio22

Just got my new ISP set-up with FTTC.

On my Laptop (Wireless), Phone (Wireless), other Phone (Wireless) and other Desktop Computer (Ethernet Cable (cat5)) I am getting 37Mbps download and 16Mbps Upload.

However on my main computer (Ethernet Cable (cat6) I am getting 37Mbps download and only 7-8Mbps upload. I have been doing multiple tests on speedtest.net and on different servers.

I have tried the cat5 Ethernet cable from the other Desktop Computer.

I have also tried a USB to Ethernet Adapter with both the normal cat6 and the cat5 cable.

I can't seem to understand why I am getting such little upload on my computer.

I am Running Windows 8 Pro 64bit, so is the laptop. the other PC is running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.

Perhaps background usage from programs you have, monitor the usage and see what's using your NIC.

Although it's unlikely to account for the entire difference, although it could reveal malicious software or bad drivers. Checking your mb manufactures website for any updates in drivers or look up the nic manufacture directly for new drivers.

Off the top of my head I can't think of what could account for this apart from the mentioned above, if everything checks out perhaps investigate a possible fault in the system. Such as hardware damage or issues with heat.

I hope that helps you track down the reason, let us know if you discover the cause and post the results of your diagnostics perhaps some one will recognise something from experience.
