Cross platform group messaging

zXUnReliableXz

I'm due for upgrade this April. I have an iPhone 4s but I wanna get the one m9. The problem is I'm in a group chat with a bunch of friends through iMessage. I would really like to stay connected in that group chat but I really don't want to get another iPhone. Without 3rd party apps, is there a way to group chat with my friends?. I don't really want to have to make them use data nor do I really but it's less of a deal if I do. I hate that Apple is limiting my choices like this.

Only way would be to get an app like Whatsapp I think. They would obviously have to switch from iMessage to Whatsapp, but it essentially does the same things across platforms.

I'v never heard of any app that does that... you could try "If This Then That", but i don't think it has that level of complexity.

Ask nicely for everyone to use skype or whatapp? :P

Bleigh!  Ever hear of AC series?

Sadly hangouts or Skype are your only choices

Apple really has it locked down

Thats that. If you need to get in touch chances are you can find someone that knows me that can get in touch.

i really dont know why there cant be group sms chats, i feel like it is a restriction of the operating systems only.
