I vote for the H100i because there's much greater choice of 120 mm than 140 mm fans.

What CPU is it for?

who cares...

except a 280mm radiator performs better while also being quieter...

The H110i GT performs better. I personally like the style of the H110i GT block over the H100i GTX. But that's just me. @KamiKatze does have a good point, there are a larger variety of SP fans available for the 120mm size standard. If you're not planning to get 3rd party aftermarket fans, then certainly go with the H110i GT. My brother has one and it's pretty good.

As @KamiKatze wrote, what cpu will you be cooling with this new aio unit? For a dual 140mm aio unit/radiator to fit in the top of the H440 should be fine. But alike KamiKatze also posted there is a limited number of decent fans to choose from which'll probably be a premium add-on (to some sense).

I have the exact same mobo and cpu as you, the H100i does a crappy job of cooling the 4790k.  Gonna have to look into other options in the future when I plan to overclock this a bit.

With much respect I have to say this, don't look for an AIO cooler with the idea that you want the one that looks better.  From a performance stand point, choosing to liquid cool your CPU goes hand in hand with what is going to get the job done efficiently and remove the most heat in the crappiest of conditions (in the overclock sense).  The h110i is going to be the better purchase in terms of cooling efficiency at load.  It does look good too, but there are plenty of things developed in the PC enthusiast market that look awesome and blow complete balls.

For fans I would get a hold of something that has pretty decent static pressure, the AF 140 fans are not going to be the fans you want for mounting on a radiator.  If you want corsair then you want the SP140 fans and they will do a pretty good job while still maintain a decent RPM so that they don't make too much noise.  Unless you're not worried about noise, but keep in mind that at some point no matter how fast your fans are running (high speed that is) they aren't going to remove any more heat from the radiator as opposed to a lower speed.  You just have to mess with the RPM settings under load and find that sweet spot.
