Alternate HDD mounting methods to using a drive bay. maybe

So i am about to buy my build this weekend ---> http://au.pcpartpicker.com/p/GVJpJx

and i was wondering what alternate methods i could use from using the bottom drive cage, in my define r4, to mount my 1 HDD and 1 SSD. i am probably going to mount my SSD on the back of the motherboard area, but i am not sure where to place my HDD. As you can see i am planning to get an additional fan, but my question is:

Is it worth getting another 140mm fan and removing all cages (removing middle one because of GPU size) for better airflow or save $25 and have a warmer system?

i am not sure on the temperature differences it will make if i use the bottom cage and don't buy an additional fan, compared to most likely 'ghetto mounting' the HDD and buying an extra fan.

I hope this all made sense and some responses would be nice,

Cheers (:

It's a bit Ghetto, but I had to cut out my HDD bay to make space for my GPU.

I mount my HDD on the bottom of the case using a huge amount of blue tack!

The two fans in the front will fit with the drive cages installed. I'd have the bottom cage installed along with the fan, I think you can rotate the bottom cage, the screws are on the bottom. If you were to install the fan, rotate the bottom cage, put the HDD in the bottom-most sled and remove the others I think the airflow wouldn't be affected much.
