How long is thermal compound considered "usable"?

So I have a tube of Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound that I probably bought about 3.5 years ago and I'm just now building myself a new rig. Can I trust that it's still usable or is there anything I should know?

As long as it can still get out of the tube it should be alright. Did you plug the end?

Nah I just capped it. It should be fine, I can cut away in crud that might have dried.

If you're ordering parts though you might as well just order another tube since they are only like what 5 bucks?
