battery life has never been great

puppett

I've has my Galaxy S4 which is battery life has never been great for almost a year. It usually last 10-11 hrs while the signal/WiFi are good. I've cleared up the cache partition and done a factory reset but still battery drain fast. I need my S4 to hold up at least one whole day. Should I get an extended battery? I’ve found a 7000 mAh battery, is it the larger the better? Thanks for support!

A friend of mine also has the S4, and he recently installed Cyanogen on it, and told me how performance and battery life got a decent boost. I would try that out first, because it's free. And if it didn't do enough, then an extended battery would be an option.

If there is one thing I know about Samsung phones is to root them and install a different ROM (and even change the kernel)

Then I tested battery drain.

Also I bought a for a co-worker a new battery once (original branded Samsung) for a GS3.

Extended battery is a option to use, but thats not really a problem solver having a extra "brick" with you.

The amount of bloatware preinstalled on the phone is insane, and TouchWiz is a real battery hog. I recently installed Cyanogenmod on mine, and I can easily get 15 hrs out of it without tweaking it whatsoever.  If you're more of a tweaking type, you can downclock your processor and install screen filter (it darkens your screen lower than what is allowed though android) and get around 2-4 additional hours out of it, depending on your settings of course.

Do you have an SD card mounted in it? the S4 was known to have issues with SD cards. Also check the battery often and see what is using the most battery. It may be an app you don't expect. Factory reseting should clear all rogue apps, so that rules that out. Usage case would also be helpful. Some people are just heavy users and get that much battery. You could also try the above mentioned methods of installing a different OS.

Does not having a second parenthesis around something bother anyone else as much as it does me? (Like if this statement was missing a second side)

S4 has never been known to have good battery life. Brightness is a big issue. Super AMOLED drains a LOT more power at high brightness levels
