In the market for a new 4k display

softwaremaniac

Hello, I am currently using an 7,5 y.o. Samsung SyncMaster 226BW TN display which has served me good, but it's time for an upgrade.

My GPU(7950) won't be able to handle 4k at the moment, but will upgrade soon. The reason why I want 4k is that I won't be upgrading the monitor anytime soon, and I think that's future-proof. I watch a lot of videos, do a lot of gaming and a little programming. I'm from Croatia so we don't have the same products available as you do.

I really like this monitor seeing as it's not TN, what do you say: http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/news_archive/31.htm#benq_bl3201pt

I looked at the famous Swift, but I think it's not worth really especially when so many new and better monitors are going to come out, and it's not 4k so...

I even looked at the Dell P2715Q, but it's too expensive (like 1200 USD), so that's out.

Your thoughts on this BenQ?

Thanks,

Greetings from Croatia.

How fast is your internet? Watching 4K on YouTube requires a pretty fast connection. Screen shot of speedtest.net?

It's not really about speed of the Internet but the consistency. 15MB/s will get the job done but not if there are drops in speed. I think 4k is definitely the way to go. Just make sure you have a displayport 1.2 port and compatible cable if you want 60hz.

The 3840x2160 (4K) resolution is much better @ 32" than 27", IMHO, as little to no scaling would be required.

I'd say go for it mate! :)

ON A 7 MONTH BREAK FROM THESE LTT FORUMS. WILL BE BACK ON NOVEMBER 5th.

He doesn't have to watch YouTube videos @ 2160P (4K). ;)

I have a 10MB/s connection for now, but I didn't mean to watch videos via YT in 4k. My GPU has DP 1.2. This BenQ comes with the required cable. So, I should buy it?

I have the Acer xb280hk and I really can't recommend it enough! it's a superb monitor of the money.

you could always get the cb280hk as its the same monitor minus the g sync modual.

both are fantastic monitors for the money

don't worry about 4k Tn panels they're very good. I went from ips to Tn and I haven't really noticed a difference.

don't bother with 4k Netflixs there's like 5 shows atm.. not worth it. I still have it anywho ha

And then the price went up. Looks like that this BenQ is too expensive for me. Any other suggestions?

you really should wait a month or two....

theres a 60hz IPS 4k gsync monitor from asus coming for 800$

and a 60hz IPS 4k freesync monitor coming from samsung for 600$ or so

If, you do gaming and you want 4k. There is no question about it - you want gsync or freesync. Even if your current video card doesnt support it.

*freesync monitor will generally be 150$ cheaper than equivalent gsync ones.

Is Swift worth taking into account although it's not 4k? I'm not a fan of 1440p, but it's a gaing monitor.

I have the Acer xb280hk with 780's in SLI.  I can't play top tier games in 4K.  Netflix 4K doesn't seem to work on PC, works fine on my 4K smart TV.  I would shoot for a 1440p monitor, preferably.

I don't think that optimized 4K gaming with a single card will happen until 3 more generations, including Titan X. You can't really rely on multi-card performance for every game because of driver support.  I barely get by on 1600p @ 60hz on a single card.  You should wait for freesync 1440p with 144hz monitor to get released.  That is more of a attainable future proof monitor, if there is one.  I am looking to get the Acer XG270HU.

Just wanted to let you know that I have finally made up my mind and ordered a shiny new Philips BDM4065UC - 40" 4K.

Thanks everyone for their kind and useful inputs. ETA is 2-3 weeks.
