A Broken Mac...

food158

Recently my mac just died. The day right after my birthday... It was dropped. When I opened it up, almost all of the pixels became a defective mess. Part of the screen was bent too, so the computer couldn't close properly. Can my computer be fixed?

Is just the monitor damaged?

Does the rest of it work? If so, then you can just replace the monitor/monitor housing -- although it's probably not worthwhile.

What model mac? Macbook? Macbook Air? Macbook Pro?

What year? 2014? Early 2011? 2008?

I would say that the monitor is just damaged itself.

Well, assuming the monitor-housing isn't damaged then you can just replace the display. If the housing is damaged -- well, then replacing it would depend on if the computer-housing is also damaged.

If you feel fine doing the repair yourself I would look up how to do it and then think about it. You can buy the screen for cheap (compared to paying apple)

you could take it apart and sell the parts separately, use the moeny to help buying a new gaming laptop or a chromebook and a desktop PC. :D

Well to get another "good" retina display cheap from China is gonna be hard. Your best bet is going to Apple to repair it. Or doing it yourself and spending 500 bucks on the monitor. https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/MacBook+Pro+15-Inch+Retina+Display+Late+2013+Display+Assembly+Replacement/23392

Or sell it to me for cheap

(IT DID NOT DIE THE MONITOR BROKE)

Steps to not being el stupido

1.Plug mac into external display (tv or another object via HDMI)

2. make 20 google accounts

3. back up data onto 20 different google accounts

4. reformat+put windows 8.1 on it

5. buy MSI gaming laptop

OR

1. go to mac enthusiests

2. pay 2x teh price of ur laptop to get its monitor fixed

OFF TOPIC: I suggest every poll from now on to have "**CK EA" option instead of "Other"

In the end I just plugged an HDMI cable into the mac and a monitor. It works just fine.

you could jus go to the nearest apple store and ask them what the fix would cost, and then consider if it's worth it to you, it's still a very capable machine so i think it's worth it
