PSU high pitch buzz

TheRealDendi

Hi,

I just got my brand new Corsair RM 850 for the main reason that it is advertised as silent. The fan hardly ever comes on and when it does it is very quiet, however it constantly makes a high pitch buzz which becomes louder under load. Has anyone had or know of anyone with a similar problem? Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?

Thanks for your time.

It's 99% probably PSU coil whine. Unfortunately, there's nothing you can do, and it's often not a RMA-worthy issue. Nevermind! Corsair are cool guys, feel free to RMA it if need be. I'd try a return from Newegg, amazon, etc if you bought it from a retailer with good support.

You, my friend, have what is called coil whine. The only way to really get rid of it is to RMA the psu.

Laptop - Lenovo Y50   Keyboard - Corsair K95 RGB Cherry MX Brown   Mouse - Logitech G502 Proteus Core   Mousepad - Razer Firefly

Sounds like coil whine. My PSU has it, but most of the time it's not a reason to RMA. It doesn't cause any damage, but it's worth trying to get a replacement.

Especially when they claim to use special components to prevent it! Mine's dead silent, never even seen the fan turn on! Worth an RMA in my opinion. Bad luck!

I had coil whining on my RM750. It also had a potential overheating problem, so I got shipping and everything covered :)  Corsair are cool people!
