The design feels very *cough*IPHONE 5C *cough* considering the app logos have a similar design, the UI in general looks iOS-inspired and the plastic colored back looks very similar to the iPhone 5C in both color and shape (as well as the color seeming so similar to Nokia's phones as well.)

Also, MediaTek is meh, would rather have a dual core Intel or Qualcomm SOC.

5.5" 720p is still ~267PPI. It's nothing special, but nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be.

Octa-core CPUs in phones are unnecessary.

Also, the iPhones run well not only because of the hardware but also because of the low level software to hardware optimization. You'll never get optimization of that level on an Android device.

the iPhone has a triple core, I guess its because phones are doing tons of stuff simultaneously, processing calls, updates, apps etc, there are tons of things happening simultaneously, and slowdowns are WAY more noticable than on a PC, you cant have your call hanging or scrolling on a web page hanging while your phone loads, yet on a PC its just less noticable

I agree we dont need 8 core chips though

iOS is a lot better designed than android and is built around specific hardware unlike android so it can be streamlined

that is the high end version of the MT chip

Yeah I don't get that. I know you gotta cut the cost somewhere but damn. Make it 16GB already... Seems like all the cheap phones decided that 8GB was enough when it's clearly not. Once the OS installed what's the storage left ? 4GB ? 3GB ?

And personnaly, even if it had a microSD slot, I don't find it reliable enough to hold pictures and movies...

Lenovo does put out some phones with very respectable battery capacities, but then kneecap them by using inefficient SOCs.

I would seriously consider them if they came with OLED displays so that I could get a lot of battery life by changing the UI to something mostly black.

Just sticking with my Moto G 2014 edition. I don't see the point in getting any phone that costs more than £150 when it doesn't do anything reasonably better than one that does cost that much.

This. I use my 132PPI iPad2 every day and the display doesn't bother me at all. My phone has a PPI of 217 and that too doesn't bother me. All of that insanely high resolution stuff is nothing but marketing garbage because they don't know how else to get potential customers to part with a shitton of money every year. Sadly, many fall for it.

I don't really play many games for gameplay anymore honestly. I play most games just for the graphics.

Eh, I use an iPad 2 and the resolution bothers me a little, but not so much. >300PPI is very nice though, once you go there you'll never go back.

People are failing to realise this is a LOW END phone. It isn't meant to be "super duper fancy", though for $169 it could at least have a microSD slot. Even the Lumia 520 has one...and that's low end as well.

It's like AMD vs Intel on desktop. With more cores it's better for doing things like video editing and rendering, but in games, it's better to have a CPU with fewer cores that are stronger as individuals.

But that's desktop, who the heck does HD video editing and 3D CAD rendering on their phone? The most demanding thing that 99% of people do on their phones is play games, and currently there's only THREE mainstream titles that can utilize 8 cores on Android, and those are Asphalt 8, Riptide GP 2 and Modern Combat 5.

2900mAh with Cortex-A53 cores at 1.5GHz? It's not going to be mindblowingly fast, but battery life is going to be epic

After the asus zenfone 2 was announced, budget smartphones have been in peoples scope. The Lenovo A7000 (i think a7k sounds cooler) aims to de-throne the Moto g from Motorola as best budget phone.

DIMENSIONS

6.01 x 3.00 x 0.31 inches (152.6 x 76.2 x 7.9 mm)

SCREEN

The display is an IPS LCD 5.5 inch screen, as big as the iPhone 6 plus, which makes this phone on the larger side. The resolution is 1280 x 720 pixels with a pixel density of 267, it’s not the highest density but more than acceptable for a smartphone in this price class.

BATTERY

The A7000 has a 2900 mAh battery, quite the upgrade to the previous model which ‘only’ had a 2300 mAh battery. This new battery supposedely gives you a talking time up to 39 hours! The average talking time for a smartphone is somewhere around 12 hours, so you’re getting a whole lot more than most phone users. The battery is also removable, something which is not that common anymore.

SOFTWARE

It comes preinstalled with the latest Android version, Lolipop 5.0. If you’re new to the Android OS it can be intimidating at first, but when you get to know it you’ll realize how much more usuable it is than other smartphone operating systems out there.

HARDWARE

Take a look inside and you’ll find an octa-core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz. Getting a processor like that at such a low price is truly a great deal. As an example, the iPhone 6 plus rocks a dual-core processor clocked at only 1.38 GHz and it costs more than twice the price! And to utilize the full power of the processor Lenovo has crammed in 2048 MB (2 GB) of RAM.

STORAGE

The built-in storage is only 8 GB but it has a slot for a microSD card, this means you can get up 32 GB of additional storage. More than enough for most users today.

CAMERA

There’s an 8 megapixel camera in the back, nothing to get too excited about. The front-facing camera is a little different though., it’s a 5 megapixel camera and the reason it’s there is probably for video calling. However I think it will be used more for high resolution selfies rather than video calling, does anyone even video call anymore?

One of the more interesting features on this phone is the sound quality actually, it’s not very common to see a new phone boast about its performance in sound.  Lenovo partnered up with the famous audio company Dolby to create some audio magic. Inside you got Dolby’s latest Atmos tech, which promises to make the sound from your headphones come alive, literally. Sound will blast at you from all kinds of directions, they call it “moving audio”. This is the worlds first smartphone to have that kind of technology! If you want to learn more about Dolbys tech, go to their Atmos page to learn more. It’s a big promise to make, I’m curious if the audio will live up to its expectations.

I think the biggest let down of this is the screen, and possibly camera. both of which still seem to be good for the price, but we shall wait and see.
