"Best" choice for GPU AIO

Go to solution Solved by Faceman,

Don't buy an H50, it isn't always compatible, there are two different models of H50, and not both of them work, so just go for the H55.

Reason why you want an H55 and not X31 is because the price to performance.  The G10 radiators don't scale very well.  Going from a 120mm radiator to a 280mm radiator via G10, you don't get as big of a performance gain.  The biggest gains are from just doing the mod to an H55.  I personally have the G10 + X31, and I thought it would be better because of the marketing gimmick(varible speed pump) and longer tubes, but it turned out to be very loud, and I don't need the extra tube length.  I spent an extra $25 on nothing.

Mount your H55 as rear exhaust, get two fans for push pull, read through my guide I posted, it explains everything.

Hello everyone,

since I'm quite happy with my Kraken x61 I'm playing around with the thought of also cooling my GPU with a AIO liquid cooler.

The reason is not so much the temperature (60 to 70°C under heavy load) but the noise (it is a GTX 770 Windforce from Gigabyte).

So I did some research on the topic and found two possibilities:

  1. Kraken G10 in combination with a Kraken x31
  2. Accelero Hybrid II-120 from Arctic

(Also I guess the HG10 from Corsair, but it doesn't seem to be around that much in shops)

As you can see 120x120 is a requirement (at least in my case ;))

Did I miss some products which would fit the requirement(s)?

Also, does anybody have some experience and could tell me which one of the above would be the better (cooler) solution?

Hey there, welcome to the forums! dont forget to follow your posts!

Ahh yes noise...

Personally i'd go with the g10 solution. It can be reused once you upgrade cards. Whenever that happens. The x31 should do a great job at that.

The only thing you should know is that the vrms may get quite hot. You may have to purchase a small heat sink for it. Maybe its not an issue with this card though, have a read around the web and see what people have found.

Bleigh!  Ever hear of AC series?

Really even the most low end AIO is more than enough cooling for a gpu, their core does not produce nearly as much heat as a cpu. And h50 or 55 will put 770 in the sub 60c range at full load I would imagine.

I was brave and bought a Accelero Hybrid I for my gtx 780. i ended up having to fold the shroud to make it fit, then thermal adhisive the heat sinks to the ram.

It lasted 2 months and my pump died, maybe i could have got an RMA for the unit but i simply binned it from frustration... then i spent about 4-5 hours carefully heating and stripping those glued heat sinks off. That day i decided 2 things.. never use thermal adhisive and never buy Accelero.

Results may vary

Regards

I have a Kraken G10 + Thermaltake Water 3.0 pro on my 770 with 2 sp120 QE fans in push pull. Temps do not exceed 55 degrees C when gaming. The one issue with this setup for most people is that the Kraken does not directly cool the VRM/Memory. So if you want to OC it at all, you should get some small heatsinks to cool everything. The fan that comes with the Kraken should do an adequate job of passing air over them when you have them installed. My card has a frontplate that acts as the VRM/Memory cooler but idk how much of a difference that makes.

Hey there, welcome to the forum!  Please remember to follow your topics and in order for someone to see that you have responded, you need to quote or "@" them.

I have also done an AIO for my CPU and AIO for the GPU, it is amazing.  Definitely look into the NZXT G10.

In the meantime, check out my How To Watercool a CPU and Single GPU Guide. Its essentially an AIO for each.  Go with an H55, not an X31.  Speaking from experience.

Wow, didn't expect that many replies, thanks to everyone!

Thank you for your experience report! That doesn't sound too great but matches with my own experiences so far.

Since I made very good experiences with NZXT in the past I think I'll go for the G10.

Is there a reason you three suggest to get an H50/55 instead of the x31 besides the already mentioned fact that the x31 is more than needed to cool a GPU? (so something like a "real" disadvantage so to speak)

Thanks Faceman for elaborating further, I read your guide and also your posts on overclock.net regarding the G10 and x31 and thanks to that decided to go for the H55 (furthermore I already have some noctua fans lying around, so building a well performing push/pull configuration shouldn't be that much of a hassle).

So it seems like we are done here, thanks again to everyone who took their time answering! :)
