Best OS for my Netbook?

PeanutPwner

So, guys. What's the best Windows OS for my Netbook?

It's an Asus 1001PX (Eee PC R101), and I'd really appreciate, if I'd get any better, than Windows XP Black Edition. :o

If this topic is not that right, just tell me, and I'll edit it.

I'm kinda new to all this forums thingy.

Greetings!

I know, gaming on a netbook isn't that nice..

That's the reason, why I'm only playing a rhythm game, called "Osu!".

how much ram does it have and what are you usually do with that netbook?
if you have 2GB, just try Windows 7, that's usually what comes with it.

@Blebekblebek, I got 1GB of RAM, it came with Windows 7 Starter, but it was kinda messed up with it.

What I usually do with it? I'm actually playing some low-end games, which still lag, on it, until I get my computer back, which still can take.. months.

I don't have money, to get a new pc/laptop/netbook anyways.

I thought of getting a really really low-end Windows OS, will get me more performance out of it, not only in gaming, just at all. I need more performance, without spending money.

My dad has the same one for some work stuff, it runs poorly on windows 7 in my opinion. I'd probably go for some Linux distro such as Elementary, Ubuntu or Mint. It would run much faster on Linux if you are not bound by software to stay on Windows (which is the case with my dad's netbook). :)

@NicekillBG; I'm running Windows XP Black Edition right now, which is based on XP Professional SP3.

For sure, could you tell me, which is the most lightweight one?

Is it a netbook or small laptop? Netbooks are usaly based have an arm proccessor (like a raspberry pi) and are limited to a few windows operating  systems such as windows 8.

If you do have a 32bit/64bit proccessor, I suggest Tiny7.

Isn't Win 7 ULTIMATE the best, for a high-end build?

well if it works then stick with it, my problems with XP are driver support and some or most new games will never run with XP, which irrelevant, for your case.

A netbook is a really small laptop. It's max. resolution is 1024x600. :/

Well, they are all lightweight to be honest. Ubuntu is most famous, but Elementary and Mint are more lightweight. Elementary resembles OS X and has a much cleaner look, which is why I run it.

Also, something to note. I run Elementary OS on my VERY old laptop with a single core at 2.1GHz, 1GB RAM and some very old Intel integrated card. It runs like a dream, even visual effects look nice and smooth, although I disabled them in order to lower GPU heating. On anything newer it runs even better. But that laptop ran XP SP3 before I installed Elementary and it was a huge jump in performance. :)

Windows 2000

... *facepalm*

I wouldn't be able to install .NET Framework 3.5/4, which I need!

I neither wouldn't be able to install the latest drivers.

Then why bother to ask? Windows Vista/7 are heavy OS. What else you want?

Ubuntu ftw. But don't know whether it'll suit your netbook.

Try it!

Intel DH61WW - Corsair® Value Select 4GBx1 DDR3 1600 MHz - Antec BP-300P PSU

Make sure you use 32bit version. Since you have 1GB of RAM.

If you're open to new things try android on it. There is a project that ports it to desktop. http://www.android-x86.org/download

Thats the iso you need.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/android-x86/files/Release%204.4/android-x86-4.4-r2.iso/download

You can run it in livemode and see if it fits you.

Other then that xubuntu is very lightweight http://xubuntu.org/

I've had xubuntu on a laptop with 1.8 ghz and 2gb ram before. Runs smooth :)

Such an old netbook probably have something like 12MB of video RAM so I would definitely not run an eye candy heavy Linux desktop such as Ubuntu's Unity or Elementary OS' Pantheon. I would recommend ArchBang with just an Openbox WM.

I'm currently running with Chell 1.7b for GMA 3150 which advances the video RAM to 387 MB.
