$50 amp

General_Led

I'm looking for a decent amp for no more then $50. I'm needing to power a pair of HiFiMAN HE‑400. I know I don't NEED an amp but I want to get that little extra out of them.

Spend a tiny bit extra and grab a Schiit Fulla or Fiio e10k.

If you want to stay at your budget get a Syba DAC from Amazon for $40.

Keep in mind unless something is wrong with your onboard audio, it's not going to do much at all, if anything.

A DAC works via usb so onboard audio wouldn't matter.

E10 was still a little anemic in the current, for me. It can get loud, but mild distortion on low notes. Not sure about E10k.

He is commenting on the fact that buying a solution isn't going to make a difference and that op should stick with onboard.

E10k is based, the potassium makes the difference.

There's seemingly a sale on le Altoids CMOY, and you can still grab a FiiO E6. If you're really desperate for more volume, these are the cheap choices, but the usability aint gonna be the best.

That's not at all what I was saying, I was saying unless his onboard has problems, a dac+amp isn't going to sound any better / much better.

I know how a dac works lol.

How does a DAC work?

takes magical numbers and turns them into unicorn braided cables that sing music to your ears

I was under the impression that a good DAC will sound better than onboard audio.

The difference is minimal unless there is something wrong with your onboard, like static / not enough volume.

I don't know why we are talking about dacs when I need an amp.

For a safe bet, get an amp with its own external PSU. In my experience, a battery or bus powered amp is a bit anemic in current for HE400. That's because HE400 is low impedance + low sensitivity, which is a bad combination.

Maybe go to ebay and search based on the price.

You can still buy one of the first edition Schiit Magni's for $79.  Gobs of power, external PSU, easy to upgrade with a standalone dac down the road, if you so choose.
