AMD Drivers

Scarymonkeys

So I've been pondering on GPU's for a while now, and I'll be finally buying here in March sometime, as I've saved up the amount of money I need. Anyways, I've thought about taking my chances and getting a 280x. I'm running on Linux, so here's the problem. I've heard that AMD drivers on Linux are absolutely terrible compared to Nvidia, but then I've heard that they run perfectly fine and that they only lose 5 or so fps. I can pick up a 280x for $125 or so or a gtx 670/660 ti for $100. Would it be more worth it to get a 280x, get the same performance as a 670 for a while, and then later on get that vast difference of improvement when the drivers get better? Will it run well? Are people just being picky with the drivers?

Oh yes, another question I have is that by the time I buy a 280X, if I do, the wattage will 413 altogether according to PCPartPicker. I have a 500w B1 EVGA PSU. Should it do decently?

A 280x is stronger than a 670. It's on par with a 770.
