fans stopping and starting on 970

ExcitezR

so by stopping and starting they don't fully stop. i have the MSI 970 with the 0RPM mode but i like to keep the fans on because it keeps the card so much cooler but if i set the fan speed to 20% the fans spin but they slow right down to where you can see the image on the fan and speed back up. its like the fan is getting a quick boost of power to keep going is this bad i notice my mates MSI 970 does it as well but at 25 % its fine.

It's probably sitting right on the minimum voltage the fan will take before it spins up. Try setting the minimum speed ever so slightly higher and see if that works. Like 25 percent or so

yea thats what i have it at now and its fine but is that a issue? or bad for the fan to do that ?

They are PWM controlled, you don't speak of voltages with PWM but rather Duty Cycle. The gist was correct though, they have a certain Duty Cycle threshold to start up.

@ExcitezR don't worry that the gpu isn't 30deg. It's by design.

Just use the 0rpm mode... It doesnt hurt the GPU in the least if its sitting at 60 or 65 degrees.

That's a way better description. I forgot about PWM being abit absent minded. But it's completely normal, just set the min speeds abit higher and it'll constantly spin then

wont that temp hurt it in the long run surly + with the fans on 25% it sits at like 29c

it is really not an issue at 65degree celsius, msi and others wouldn't set it at that temp if it would.

If one does not fail at times, then one has not challenged himself.

No, its designed to run at those temperatures. Noticeable chip degradation only occures with very high voltages and temps close to, or at the maximum ratings. So even if you ran your card at 75 degrees non-stop it would still last way longer that you'd need it for... :P

Nah, the gradual heating up and cooling down is probably better for the PCB.

hey thanks guys im going to be running it at 0 RPM from now on but if you were wondering what it was doing look at the video excuse the quality youtube is still processing it
