Case Fan Placement

Hybrid_

I have a Corsair CCSPEC-03 and it has no room inside on the top for fans, and I am thinking about putting the fan above my CPU and making it exhaust.  I also had the idea of cutting a 120mm hole in my window and making an intake directly into the graphics card.  Could you guys give me any ideas on fan placement? Thanks

Cooling Air

That's not quite specific enough.

I only have stock corsair case fans, one intake, one exhaust.  I am planning on adding a Corsair AF120 Red LED fan to my system.

Are your current temps inadequate?

My current temp are fine, although as I was playing Sniper Elite 3 my graphics card temps were around 90-94 Degrees Celsius.  Which was making me lean towards cutting a hole in my window.

I'd suggest first moving the front fan to the bottom for intake instead.

There is a hard drive bay with one HDD mounted in the top mounting bracket.  Won't that have an effect on the airflow?

Oops, misread that, I apologise.

My power supply is too big and my fan won't fit in the bottom of my case because the 2 mounting fans facing the back of the case are obstructed.

That could work. I'd personally go with making a window though.

hi,

I also have this very case, though my graphics card is not the same (and doesn't heat as much) it's also AMD.

I removed the front led fan and moved it to the back as exhaust. I then added 2 static pressure red led fans (Corsairs SP120, I know I could have used AF but I had those). I then added a AF 120 to the top as exhaust but this one depends on ur cpu cooler if it leaves enough room. My mobo temps never pass 40's and they are usually around the low 30's. My R9 280 under load goes around 55º (this is the hottest I've seen it, usually hovers in 50's) and my AMD 8350 is 30's and low 40's under load.

Here is my pcpartpicker build log, you can see some pictures of where I installed my fans

https://pcpartpicker.com/b/9B9WGX

I like to think my fan placements have something to do with this but I might be wrong. I also have my PSU pulling air from the bottom of the case instead of hot from the case.

I only read this today, but this sounds really good.  There is one problem though.  My case can only have 2 fans at the front and one exhaust at the back.  Which is causing problems for me.  It is a smaller case, so it was made to save space.  I cant fit any fans in the bottom of my case, due to my power supply being too big (Corsair RM750) and I cant fit any fans on the top inside because there is no space for them.  The only way I can create better airflow is by modding my case, or just mounting the fans outside on the top. Which I really don't like.  I am am thinking of getting a new case though...

are you having high temp issues? or u just trying to improve airflow? Also why can't you put fans on the top, I just changed my layout (remember I have the same case) and I have 2 fans on the top, what CPU cooler u using?

I have a cable tie in the top holding one of the Motherboard power cords so I cant mount it.  Also, I just want to improve airflow, with stock intel cooler

Just change your set up that would make ur life so much easier. Check this out

Remove your cable tie. Put the fan on top, and hide your cables behind the fan there is space there I'm hiding some there myself, there are always ways you just have to get creative.

Also consider getting a better cooler, I don't know what socket ur using but something like the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo is great, cause is super cheap and dissipates tons of heat very well, you won't find a better cooler at that price (usually around $30). And yes it fits in that case, I used to have a Hyper 212 in that very case

That's normal operating temperature for a R9 290. Modern graphics cards cannot physically go higher than thier rated operating temperatures, as the GPU will decrease its usage / throttle itself to maintain that temperature.

TL;DR; you don't have to worry about the temperature of your graphics card so long as it isn't throttling. You will know if it's throttling by running a stress test like Furmark and watching as the temps rise. If the GPU load decreases from 100% as it nears 90 degrees, then it is throttling to keep it at 90 degrees.

What exactly are your problems? Do you even have any cooling issues? unless your cpu and gpu are throttling, you have nothing to worry about except noise.

Do you want a silent pc? why do you seek better cooling?

This is what I think of Pre-Ordering video games: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wp98SH3vW2Y

I just want better cooling, my friend put an intake fan on his case window directly into his gpu and said that temps dropped 20 Degrees Celcius.  He also has the 290 and I think it would be good for it to be cooler than for it to be hotter.
