Is now a good time to move platform?

As the title says, is now a good time to move platform?

It is coming to that point in the year in which I have saved up some money and well my big upgrade plan is to move from the FX 8350 to an intel i7. With X99 starting to mature and Z97 having been out for quite a while now, should I hold off or go straight into one of these two platforms?

x99 seems to be a future proof option to me.

My thought process with X99, while being a larger outright expense, needing new RAM etc, it will "last" longer and essentially give me my old mobo, cpu and ram free to be repurposed

I'd avoid X99 for now unless you're going to get 5820K or 5930K. I'd quicker wait for Skylake. Haswell is trash and Broadwell appears to be more trash. I don't care how much people love it, they draw more power and generate more heat than Ivy Bridge ever did, and X99 is more of the same. What was it, people OC'd the 5960X and it was pulling like 400W? That's insane.

Hopefully Skylake will be a better platform. New architecture on 14nm process.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

X99 is nowhere near mature. I agree with D2ultima, wait for skylake and then decide
