Is this a good laptop?

DarkEnergy

I've been looking for a laptop lately since my craptop gets hot as balls (literally) and is slow. I plan to do some mid range gaming, and to bring it to school for working on. I was mainly focused on Lenovo and Acer. In the end I so far have concluded that this laptop would suit me. http://store.acer.com/store/aceramer/en_US/pd/ThemeID.35703000/productID.307603200/parentCategoryID.67688300

My price range is ~$650.

I want opinions on how this laptop would perform and if anyone has past experience with something similar. The only con I see about this laptop is the 1366x768 res, but considering it's only a 14 inch screen, I am fine with this.

Personally, I don't like Acer, at all. Lenovo and ASUS are my go-to brands, but I'll take a look in a minute and leave my opinion in an edit.

EDIT: If you buy it on sale, go ahead, I guess. I'm not wow'd, but I guess it depends on what you're using it for. Had it not been on sale, I wouldn't touch it. There are several options I've seen that are much better for only $50 more. One being this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834231974. The only thing that is lacking is the GPU according to cpubenchmark.net PassMark scores.

It's an ok laptop but the screen size and weight would make it not very portable.

True, I guess one thing I can respect about Acer is their portability. Could I recommend a Surface Pro 3? lol, totally joking (in this case)

EDIT: I usually look at a laptop for performance over portability, which is backwards for laptops, but I can't help it. If the laptop performs, I will carry it. I'll go ahead and let the rest of LTT help you decide, not sure if I can get past my personal bias in this case. Best of luck finding a new one!

The good news is that I just found a random promo code online which would bring the price down to $585 for the acer one.
