What network adapter do you have? Did you download the correct drivers for Windows 8?

Use the Windows 8.1 Upgrade Assistant. http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/p/?LinkId=261871

If it's compatible, you can buy Windows 8.1 from that same program, install it (or create a DVD) and be on 8.1.
