Quiet gaming keyboard?

Hello, and thanks for reading this already!

I'm looking for a quiet gaming keyboard (to not ruin housemates' nights while gaming till 5am :P).

I prefer pretty low keys (qua height), as I'm used to a laptop keyboard and always found it nice.

Any extra features are nice too!

Basic guide to CPU's!

If I said I were 14, you would call me a kid. If I say 70, you’ll entitle me too old. If I say 20 you say I’m inexperienced and if I say 40 than I'm too boring.

If you are looking for a quiet keyboard, you surely wont use cherry mx blue/greens (In razer keyboards)

Take a look on this for a keyswitch guide : http://www.keyboardco.com/blog/index.php/2012/12/an-introduction-to-cherry-mx-mechanical-switches/

Also, depending on what you need (macro keys, etc), search it up online.

Personally, I cant give you any suggestions as I dont use a mechanical keyboard (Logitech G105, $50 mark haha), but if you are transitioning from a laptop to normal keyboard, I would suggest Red switches as they have the least actuation force, similar to a laptop keyboard where you dont have to press so hard.

If you like mechanical keyboards, the ones with Cherry MX Red and Black switches are pretty quiet. If you still think those are kinda loud, you can get dampeners.

All mechanical keyboards regardless of the switch type they use make pretty audible noise when the keycaps bottom out, even Reds.

@Stijncat I recommend you go for a good sweet spot with Cherry MX Browns (tactile bump which is good for typing, also nice for gaming, doesn't have the clickyness of Cherry MX Blues).

If you want to suppress the noise of the keycaps bottoming out you can buy a relatively inexpensive kit of rubber keycap noise dampeners. They reduce keycap travel distance by a bit and dampen the noise of the key caps bottoming out making a mechanical keyboard much quieter.

What's your budget for the keyboard?

Yea, like the others mentioned, you can get any keyboard you desire because the noise is dependent on the type of switch. Go to your local store and test out the switches for your needs

On a side note, are browns less loud then reds?

@Shaqo_Wyn, around €100 should give me something decent!

@TechFnatic good tip!

Also, it doesn't HAVE to be mechanical, as long as its quiet and somewhat laptop like :P.

Well you might as well get a mechanical keyboard for 100 EUR. Check out the CM Storm Quickfire TK with Cherry MX Brown switches.

I was looking for something similar to my laptop's keyboard in the beginning too. Ended up getting the Logitech K360. It does have the chiclet style keys but they're pretty loud.

The Apple keyboard are supposedly as close as one can get to the laptop style keyboards but I've never tried on myself. They should be under 100 EUR though.

I wish someone would explain to me what the difference between a "gaming" keyboard and keyboard is. Fucking fads.

Gaming label doesn't matter. It matter's how it preforms. A keyboard labeled without gaming could be have a better features, quality, and better at gaming than a keyboard labeled for gaming. But, keyboards labeled for gaming could be just as good as keyboards not labeled gaming.

Also, at your budget OP, I think you would get a much better performance for both browsing and gaming by getting a mechanical keyboard. If you do get a mechanical keyboard, you should do some research about each key and/or go to some store to try them out like best buy or something. Browns would be the safest pick tho and they are potentially the quietest MECHANICAL keyboard if you don't bottom out and only reach the actuation point. If not mechanical, I don't know much about the options but some of logitech's and corsair's membranes are pretty good too. For Corsair, you could go for the Corsair Raptor K30,40,or 50 with the K40 and 50 models with RGB light if you really want it. The Corsair ones are also one of the best membrane keyboards with N-key roll over while the ones from Logitech I am pretty sure only have like 5 or 6 key rollover.
