Socket 462 cooling

So my stepdad's old computer has a Socket 462 CPU (a Sempron 3000+, as I recall), and there is a chance he might turn it into an old-school gaming computer. I would like to get a better heatsink for it though, since the stock one sucks. I was thinking about trying to snag a FX-series heatpiped cooler from someone on here for cheap, but I'm not sure if the two are interchangeable. I know that AM2+ and up are all compatible, and apparently the FMx sockets will work with the AM2+ heatsinks as well.

Already have the heatsink in the Amazon link, and I was kinda thinking the new FX-series heatpiped cooler from someone on here if it is compatible, since when I had mine it was freaking quiet for a stock cooler.

I once read the mounting holes aren't in the same place but the clips are. So stock coolers should be worth a try. Do you have one spare?

754, 939, AM2, AM2+, AM3, AM3+, FM1, FM2, FM2+ Use the same mounting system, but bad news: it's wider than 462. Unless you've true cianoacrilate (not chinese that breaks instantly) and you've enough space glue the mount (obviously no backplate)

Also my 462 mb doesnt have holes (Dunno yours) so zipties impossible. If you can take a pic from top and below I'd try some "RD"

 

If you are interested socked 462 cooler mount = socket 370, Arctic Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 w/o the metal crap for mounting + stock mounting clip over the pipes works <- Gonna make a tutorial 4 this now

Oh pooey. I'd be doing this on the ASUS A7VBX-LA, so there's no holes. At least I found a nice Cooler Master heatsink on eBay for it. With luck it will be able to handle an Athlon XP 3000+.

Ok, new cooler then, seems like you've the same problem as me... too many shit around the socket to glue other mounting systems

BTW, it's a Cooler Master X Dream II.

 

Not saying this Sempron 3000+ is painfully slow... But it is.

Yeah Socket A(462) does not share coolers with S939 or any of the AM series, and the S939 coolers are just a bit different from AM2/3.

Socket A uses an old style retention bar that clips to the socket itself, not a bracket around it.
