R9 270 or R9 270X?

Hello community!

I'm starting to save up for a $150 - $170 graphics card and the best options I found were the R9 270 and the R9 270X. Should I go with the R9 270 or save up the extra $20 and get the R9 270X? Also I'm planning to get the MSI version of these cards, and I also would like to know which one is better in terms of overclocking. I would appreciate feedback from this awesome community!

I heard the 270X was the same as a 270, but slightly overclocked.

You can do the overclocking yourself too, to achieve it.

this.

The 270 and the 270x have the same gpu chip and memory configuration. Some 270x's will be bimmed a bit higher but most should overclock to 270x levels and even above with little to no issue.

basically, if you want to push a serious overclock on the gpu go with the X. the biggest limiting factor on the 270 is that it is a 120w tdp and has a 150w ceiling (75w from the slot 75w from the 6 pin connector) where the limiting factor on the 270x is thermal/voltage since it has 2 6 pin connectors.

270, the 270x is just an overclocked 270 and you can easily reach those clock speeds manually.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

This is just my opinion but THAT CARD BRO SUCKSSSS i got it over the summer and by 2 days i had returned it. The FPS i was getting from that card was awful like minecraft i was getting like 75-90 fps and with my old card i had been getting in the 300-450 range so instead i got the Gtx 660 Sc and that card was 100x better for me.

Mine craft is not really a good metric for FPS comparisons since your processor makes a huge difference.

hell has anyone ever seen minecraft used in a gpu benchmark for a review? anyone?

and also.... 75  fps is bad? since when?

ಠ_ಠ That's a bold thing to say..

Your autocorrect must not work correct too, right?

Too much 'ur' and 'peice'? Dang son...

Better to get R9 270 with a good cooler, and overclock it manually - you will most likely end up with more performance than a R9 270X.

I have the 270x... no regrets so far, and I dont feel like overclocking but that depends on you.

And about that thing with the FPS on that card and the 660... I noticed something strange, when I got this card I had an AMD Athlon II X4, and a a friend got the 750Ti with his old CPU (An AMD Athlon II X2) but somehow while I was getting 25FPS (for the huge bottleneck of course) he was getting 50FPS on a card which should perform worse... and my CPU is better so I just cant see why he was getting better FPS... I think there might be some CPU bottleneck issues with AMD cards? And im saying that because I had better FPS on a freaking 9500GT than the 270x (thanks god now I have a new CPU and it works perfectly)

Overclock the 270 or if you could wait a little longer, which I wish I had, get a 280. You won't regret it.

I'm not too sure about the 280... I'm a little constrained in power supply wattage (450W uncertified power supply from Rosewill - I keep it safe by going up to 350W, which isn't really a problem) and have a pretty strict budget.

Also, the only graphically intensive games I plan to play are Star Citzen, GRID Autosport, World of Warcraft, and possibly Anki Drive (Haven't heard much of how it performs, but I think it looks like a cool racing game.)

Depends on if you know how to overclock.

If yes, buy a 270 and you can achieve pretty much identical clock speeds as an overclocked 270x.

If no, get a 270x.

Well I guess just stick to the 270, but you should consider the 280

The R9 270X is the same silicon as the R9 270, the difference is it has a beefier power delivery system so that you can overclock it further. 2x 6-pins vs 1x allows for higher power target. Generally it's not really worth it though. The difference is pretty small and from what I've seen the R9 270X costs almost the same as the R9 280 which is much better.

That is not correct the 7850 has a cut down core while the 270 is full core at reduced clocks.

did you read the ionformation in the first link and then read the information in the second link...LOL.....??

Yes I did it doesn't change the fact that neither of those cards is a rebadged 7850 like your comment implied.

R9 270 and R9 270X are both HD 7870s. The R9 270 is basically an HD 7870 while the R9 270X is a 7870 GHz Edition.

The R7 265 is the rebranded HD 7850. Lowering the clock speed of the HD 7870 doesn't make it an HD 7850.

you must have missed the first page at anand and the last page at OCP. Somebody has to be wrong. I don't need all your professionalism. I already know all that stuff. By the way, it looks nicer with bullet points.

If you look at my signature, I have my R9 270 clocked at 1125 MHz from the stock of 975. It overclocks pretty well. xD

Hmm, I wonder...is saying I want to sell this card on a forum thread that's unrelated to my specific card against the CoC?

Edit: Wait, yep it is. So, removed. I guess I could set up a classified, then. Oops.

Why is the God of Hyperdeath SO...DARN...CUTE!?

Also, if anyone has their mind corrupted by an anthropomorphic black latex bat, please let me know. I would like to join you.
