Folding@Home app now supports non-Sony devices

Sony has updated the Folding@Home application to bring Android 5.0 Lollipop support, but more importantly the app will now work on non Sony smartphones.

The app utilises the processing power and Wi-Fi connection of your smartphone during off-peak hours (the default is between midnight and 6am) to help find cures for a number of diseases. We have been using the app since it launched and it is great to see that hopefully now many more people can contribute. Head over to the Play Store if you are still yet to download the app.

It's cool that this exists, but I don't honestly think it's that effective considering the processing power and battery life of a phone.

Yeah, I use Tasker to downclock my Z1 Compact to 652Mhz when folding to keep it cool. Also you can only fold when fully charged and plugged in.

That I'm not sure of... I'd imagine it'd do battery wear.

No, but the temperatures will. Keep an eye on your battery temperature, you want to keep it low for longer lifespan :)

That's the reason I downclock while folding.

Let me see, I have a 1.5GHz dual core tablet with a dead battery, but is fine plugged in, then my quad core tablet which I use as an e-reader, then a few of my old rigs and my main. I think I could contribute nicely.
